About the U.S. Hispanic Drama Series Incubator

Early in 2016, NALIP announced a major incubation program supported by Univision and Televisa in an effort to boost Latino diversity in Television. The incubator's aim is to develop fresh, innovative and creative content for Univision and Televisa platforms through the recruitment, mentorship, funding, development and advancement of Latino content creators and NALIP membership.

What to begin prepping ahead of a potential curation

Begin crafting a few original ideas that appeal to a young bilingual demographic. Emphasize culture and family dynamics such as pride, love and conflict; heritage; affinity to music. Themes such as sacrifice, work ethic determination, resilience, and triumph over tragedy should be considered. Your target demo also is made up of Women 60%, Mexican 65%, West Coast/South West 60%, Median age 35-40 years, Spanish Speakers 51%,

What to Look Out For

This incubator is seeking content creators that can deliver a refreshing vision of the Latino experience. Content creator must have an understanding of Televisa/Univision’s demographic target audience and at the same time relate to the vibrant content seekers that command much of the new content in the market. Content creator must stray away from the stereotypical Latino stories that have been told over and over again. Demonstrate a concept that captures the essence of driven Latinos who retain a connection to their roots.

What to expect in the next few months of NALIP Latino Lens: U.S. Hispanic Drama Series Incubator

Pending on a multi-step evaluation of profiles and writing samples, NALIP will arrange special meetings with a group of 8-10 content creators highly recommended and vetted. An initial meeting, lasting about an hour with Televisa and Univision executives and creatives, will determine which writers will be invited to craft pitches as part of the U.S. Hispanic Drama Series Incubator. Success in the incubator could potentially open a window for the creation of an original TV pilot.
