Vice President, Television - Participant

Position Summary: The Vice President, Television supports the overall vision, mission, and mandates for the company by executing and implementing the development and production of episodic television, as well as raise the profile of the Participant brand. This position will primarily focus on documentary series production but will also support narrative series development as needed.

Responsibilities:

Work with and Support Overall Efficiency of SVP, Global Television:

  • Television strategy
  • Day-to-day operations
  • Staffing
  • Development and production budgets
  • External partnerships and distribution opportunities
  • Network tracking data
  • Sales and production goals

 

Execute the development, sales and production of Documentary Television series:

  • Bring in and evaluate episodic submissions
  • Join pitches and meetings and facilitate follow-up
  • Develop original content
  • Package projects with showrunner/director/talent attachments
  • Manage schedules and budgets on series
  • Help supervise/support specific shows through all phases of development, sales, production, post-production and delivery
  • Work with showrunners/writers, directors, producers and network executives through the creative and physical production processes
  • Oversee production and manage a slate of projects in development and production

 

Integrate into Other Participant Divisions:

  • Facilitate communication between Episodic, Documentary Film, Narrative Film, Marketing, Business Affairs, and Social Impact departments
  • Interact cross-departmentally and build strong relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management

 

Other Duties/Special Projects:

  • Conduct in-depth research for specific projects as needed
  • Create decks / visual treatments for projects as needed
  • Diversify the development and production/development slate
  • Attend film / TV festivals, conferences and events to raise the profile of Participant, as well as track new projects, filmmakers, and potential production/development partners 
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:  

  • 8+ years of experience in television (i.e. production company, studio, network, agency, or management company)
  • Significant knowledge of the television landscape
  • Strong interest in developing documentary and narrative TV series for premium cable, basic cable, and streaming / emerging platforms. 
  • Strong existing relationships with creative community, writers, showrunners, network executives, producers, talent, management companies and agencies
  • Strong development history and talent for identifying unique material
  • Ability to be a self-starter who is assertive, enthusiastic and highly motivated
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to synthesize information
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • A college degree in a related field
