Show Writer

Staff writer needed for Story Development department, to work in partnership with project teams in creation of new theme park attractions and related facilities.  In addition to high caliber writing skills, candidate must have knowledge of Disney motion picture and theme park stories, a strong sense of Disney storytelling, and the capacity to work well within a team structure.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating original story concepts and developing them through outline, treatment and final script.
  • Brainstorms within show teams and works with concept artists and directors to help flesh out the story of a ride, environmental and/or media based attraction or related facility.
  • Generation of story ideas developing them through outline, treatment and final script.
  • Work effectively under tight deadlines, while maintaining individual creative integrity; communicating effectively at all levels in all disciplines.
  • Brainstorms within show teams and works with concept artists and directors to help flesh out the story of a ride, environmental and/or media based attraction.
  • Holistic responsibility over story development for multiple attractions.
  • Casts and directs performer talent (including star talent) and directs and edits media and vocal recording sessions.
  • Supports company-wide communications.
  • Presents concepts to all levels of The Walt Disney Company and external stake holders including sponsors.
  • In addition to story development the Show Writer also generates nomenclature, and sign copy for supporting show and operational graphics, operational spiels, show dialogue and cast member training materials.
  • Informal leadership to guide associate show writers and interns including peer leadership of certain members of project team.
  • Empowered to initiate concepts.
  • Ability to influence based on being a subject matter expert.
  • Work effectively under tight deadlines, while maintaining individual creative integrity; communicating effectively at all levels in all disciplines.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in related field, experience directing theatre or television.
  • Ability to work independently on numerous projects of varying levels of complexity from concept to completion.
  • Ability to write strong dialogue, have an understanding of story structure, and to produce detailed and descriptive prose.
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact in a team environment and creative leadership.
  • Ability to brainstorm; strong presentation skills and proactive problem solver.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to delegate, polish dialogue and mentor Associate Show Writer; ability to direct/train front line members as necessary. 

Preferred Education

  • BA or BS degree desired.
  • Creative Writing, Playwrighting, Screen Writing, Journalism or Communications studies preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foreign language skills a plus.
