The purpose of the Arkansas Humanities Council is to promote understanding, appreciation, and use of the humanities in Arkansas. To achieve its purpose, the council awards grants through a competitive application process to nonprofit groups and organizations so they can plan, conduct, and evaluate projects in the humanities for Arkansas citizens.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult with council program staff before preparing grant applications. The staff can provide information about changes that occur in the guidelines, answer any questions you have about the application process, and comment on application drafts.

Funds media projects that result in the development of humanities audiovisual resources, including film and video productions, exhibits, audio productions, slide-tape programs, and websites. Preference given to media projects that focus on Arkansas prehistory, history and culture. Major grants of up to $5,000 for film and video pre-production, including development of scripts and production treatments. Funds all format shorts, documentaries, features.


Major grant application deadlines are February 15 and September 15, and decisions are made in April and November, respectively.  Check website for details.
