Latino Advocacy Groups Vow to ‘Get Loud’ in 2023 About Lack of Progress in TV and Film Representation

Latino Donor Collaborative, a non-profit organization, is planning a two-day event for up-front presentations to advertisers and lead consumer companies. The goal it to prove how much more money can be made through reaching Latine consumers. Tyler Perry to Direct Netflix’s ‘Six Triple Eight,’ WWII Epic About Black Female Battalion

Terry Perry is set to direct and write Netflix's World War II film, "Six Triple Eight." It will be about the only all-Black, all-female battalion during the war. The battalion had 855 women who had no idea what they were getting into and face prejudice and discrimination. Yet they persevered and delivered millions of pieces of mail in record time. Perry will be adapting the screenplay on an article written by Kevin M. Hymel.

AMC Theatres Launches Branded Credit Card

One of the biggests movie chains in the country is launching a credit card. The new card will offer even more AMC Stub rewards points, not only at the movies but also on everyday purchases. This is another attempted to expand their business outside of box office as they are still recovering from the pandemic. Other ventures AMC has done is invested in gold and silver mining company, partnered with Zoom, and plants to sell popcorn in malls.

Sundance Unveils Indie Episodic and Short Films Lineup Featuring Willie Nelson Docuseries, Xavier Dolan Show

This year, Sundance will be featuring a new series from Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, multi-episode on music icon titled "Willie Nelson," a series "Poacher" (about NGO workers and law officers), and a series on a Jewish-Orthodox Brooklyn family called "Chanshi." Short films are not Sundance's sole focus, episodic projects are also an integral part, according to Kim Yutani.

LGBTQ Representation in Film Rises While Racial Diversity and Screen Time Decline, Per GLAAD Report

GLAAD released their 10th Studio Responsibility Index, a study that tracks "quantity, quality, and diversity" of LGBTQ characters in released films from the previous year by seven distributors. Those distributors include Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros and more. According to GLAAD, 16-20.8% of 77 films that were released contained LGBTQ characters. For the first time in five years, GLAAD was able to count a transgender character. Unfortunately racial diversity dropped one percent.

Netflix Sets Live-Action Film Adaptation of Classic Manga ‘City Hunter’ (Exclusive)
Netflix greenlights for a live action film based on a Japanese manga "City Hunter." Ryohei Suzuki will be the leading man, starring as Ryo Saeba and Yuichi Sato will be directing the film. "City Hunter" was a staple manga throughout the 1980s in Japan. The franchise had created popular anime series, adaptations and movies made in China and France.

‘Tár’ and ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Tie for Best Picture at Los Angeles Film Critics Awards

LAFCA (Los Angeles Film Critics Association), for the fourth time in its history, tied two films for their top honors: A24's "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and Focus Features' "Tár." Todd Field won director and screenplay prizes for "Tár," and its leading lady (Cate Blanchett) won best lead performance honor. In October, the association announced switching to gender neutral acting categories and evidently went through with it.
