Move the latest growth milestone for the Chilean Academy Award winners

Fabula’s Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín, producers of Academy Award winner “A Fantastic Woman,” have appointed seasoned former Paramount exec Geoff Stier as CEO of Fabula in North America.

Paramount Pictures EVP of production from 2009, where he developed and managed feature projects such as “True Grit” and “World War Z,” Stier will begin to head up Fabula in North America from the second week of April, still based out of Los Angeles where Chile’s Larraín brothers established a production company last year.

Hola Mexico Full Scholarship for Emerging Latino Filmmakers

The application for Tomorrow's Filmmakers Today 2018, our 10-day program for Latino emerging filmmakers is now available.
This is a fully-funded scholarship opportunity for 20 participants only. The program runs from from June 1st to June 10th during the Hola Mexico Film Festival. Be part of a growing network of filmmakers eager to voice their creative work and engage in meaningful collaborations by applying to Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today 2018. The 20 selected filmmakers will spend 10 days participating in conversations with top leaders of the Mexican and Hollywood film industry through talks, site visits and master classes.The fully-funded program includes the opportunity to showcase a short film as part of the festival screens. TFT participants this year will also serve as the jury to select the best film of Hola Mexico Film Festival, TFT Award.

Callie Hernandez has been cast as the female lead in the Fox drama pilot “Mixtape,” Variety has learned.

The project is described as a romantic musical drama that looks at a disparate group of interconnected people in contemporary Los Angeles through the lens of the music that defines who they are. Hernandez will play Nellie, whose job in admissions at an arts college and relationship with an up-and-coming musician have derailed her own dreams of becoming an artist.

Gina Rodriguez now has multiple “Carmen Sandiego” projects in the pipeline for NetflixDeadline first reported that the Golden Globe winner will star and co-produce a forthcoming, live-action feature on the scarlet-clad thief, news she shared on Twitter. In April, Rodriguez confirmed plans to voice the character in the streaming service’s upcoming animated series.

Up on your feet, somewhere there’s music playing: Netflix has renewed “One Day at a Time” for Season 3. The renewal wasn’t a slam dunk, as the show is believed to just have middle-of-the-road viewership — hence the time Netflix took to crunch the numbers and make it work. But the show has garnered loads of critical acclaim — and has been lauded in particular for its depiction of a Latino family, and embrace of important issues through the lens of comedy, giving Netflix plenty of reasons to find a way to bring the show back.

Raúl Castillo has been cast as the male lead in the Fox drama pilot “Mixtape.”

The project is described as a romantic musical drama that looks at a disparate group of interconnected people in contemporary Los Angeles through the lens of the music that defines who they are. Castillo will play Sam, who is described as an aspiring songwriter, secret romantic and young widower who will do anything for his son.

NALIP members Miguel J. Soliman and Alejandro Sugich will be screening their projects at the 25th annual San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF). The festival is produced by the Media Arts Center San Diego, who started SDLFF 25 years ago initially as a student film festival (Cine Estudantil) focusing on works by Latinos and/or about the Latino Experience. Since that time, the San Diego Latino Film Festival has developed into one of the larger and well-respected Latino film festivals in the world. Over 325,000 people have attended during the past 25 years and over 3,880 films/videos from across Latin America and the United States have been screened.
