WORLD Channel Showcases NALIP Latino Lens Beyond Graduation Digital Shorts Incubators

The World Channel and NALIP teamed up to create new voices for future Latinx filmmakers with Latino Lens Incubator: Beyond Graduation.

Latinos Lens program aims to incubate projects across all platforms; digital, documentary, narrative, TV, streaming, and tech. This year, the program called out forstories that represent the different pathways and narratives that people face once they graduate high school.

Jorge Garcia to Star in Spanish-Language Film ‘Killing Will Willys’ — Exclusive

Jorge Garcia is best known to television audiences as the lovable island castaway on ABC’s “Lost” and, more recently, as Jerry Ortega on “Hawai Five-0,” but he’s on the brink of tackling a very different kind of project: The actor is set to star in his first Spanish-language feature as the lead in “Killing Will Willys,” the directorial debut of Chilean filmmaker Gaspar Antillo, which begins production this week. Netflix will release the project worldwide following a theatrical release in Chile.

A sitcom inspired by the life of Danny Trejo is currently in development at ABC.

Titled “Food & Familia,” the multi-camera comedy has Trejo attached to star as a father who’s about to get out of prison when he and his daughter — who hates her father for abandoning her — inherit the family restaurant after the family matriarch passes way.

Briarcliff Lands U.S. Rights To ‘El Chicano’, First Latino Superhero Pic With All-Hispanic Cast

EXCLUSIVE: Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to El Chicano, a Latino superhero film with an all-Hispanic cast that just had its premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival. It’s the second film for Briarcliff, the upstart distribution venture launched by Open Road founder Tom Ortenberg, after just opening Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9El Chicano will be released theatrically on March 22, 2019, and sources said the target is 600-800 screens.

Vargas wrote the movie, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, about a comedian who tries to confront her intimacy issues and history of abuse while attempting to score a big new gig in L.A. The character is fictional, but the trauma she went through at the hands of her father is not -- it’s very much Vives’ story.
