Inspiring the Next Generation of Filmmakers at the Emerging Content Creators Workshop

The two-hour workshop guided students and recent graduates though an informative guide for young content creators to successfully transition into the industry. Following the discussion, the emerging creators will broke into small mentorship groups with selected industry professionals!

Power Up: Intersectional Stories Panel

These panelists encouraged women empowerment across the entire Ricardo Montalban Theatre through their complex, powerful, diverse storytelling. Encompassing all aspects of content creation, they discussed powerful role representation and visibility played in crafting their profession

Kickoff Screenings of the Official Selection

Many applied and these works were the lucky few who had their short works screening at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre

After the Kick Off Screenings, the celebration continued back at Hollywood and Highland with the Summit Launch Mixer of 2018 NALIP Media Summit presented by Sundance Institute and Film LA. Attendees had the opportunity to unwind, network and hear exciting announcements from Sundace!

Friday Day 2

Conversation with STARZ Presented by STARZ Network

The STARZ Panel gave an exclusive, intimate conversation between filmmakers and executive producers as they dived into ways to keep their programs meaningful from season to season. Participants learned the inside scoop on keeping a bold slate and ways to prepare for development.

Real Stories For A Digital Age Presented by Public Media

From film to digital media, industry professionals explained the importance on staying current during the Real Stories For A Digital Age Panel. Aspiring content creators were caught up to date with the drastic changes in recent years involving digital platforms and audience engagement.

Our VOCES. Our Stories -- A deep dive into documentary filmmaking, not for your Abuelas PBS! Presented by Public Media

Filmmaker Ben De Jesus (Tales from a Ghetto Klown) took attendees behind the scenes to discuss the making of the upcoming PBS / AMERICAN MASTERS documentary focused on legendary Puerto Rican actor Raúl Juliá, who is best known for his work in classics such ass Kiss of the Spider Woman(1985) and The Addams Family (1991).

 

Create & Engage with Public Media Presented by Public Media

At the Create & Engage Panel Storytellers became filmmakers as panelist shared their journey in creating works that highlighted engagement and innovations within their community. Attendees gain insight and motivation on how to have their completed works distributed across various platforms.

Public Media Block Mixer -Presented by Public Media

After the inspirational and informative panels, attendees were able to share their new found knowledge and network with fellow creatives in the industry! The Public Media Block was brought to you by PBS, CPB, ITVS, and LPB.

#FemaleTVDirectors Panel Presented By NALIP's Diverse Women in Media Initiative

20% or fewer episodes of television are directed by women every year and NALIP is proud to have had this year's NALIP Media Summit have programming featured more than 75% women from all sectors of entertainment. These trailblazing powerhouses discussed their path in between directing episodic versus features and shared the most fulfilling and challenging on set moments.

Seizing The Power

The executives and producers featured in this panel are empowering others in seizing the power and building empires by proving to everyone that their inclusive content is the right content to showcase.

Creating With Allies 

These producers and executives shared how to create mutually beneficial relationships to support some amazing films along with the process and possibilities of creating your next project abroad.

Mitu Meets Hollywood Presented by Mitu

With nearly 100 million views every month, the Mitu Panel brought inspirational speakers to the NALIP Media Summit. Through exploring the values and mission of this publication, young filmmakers were encouraged to celebrate and spread their Latinx stories all over the world.

It's Handled. Brand Management

Experts discussed their knowledge on the future of brand management and what to expect from relationships between filmmakers and advertisers and industry marketers, ultimately helping their piece shine among the competition. 

Subjects That Speak

Choosing the right subject can influence the whole narrative of a documentary. Filmmakers discussed how they choose their focus and filming style along with the importance of having the right subject portray the right message for the narrative of a documentary.

Signature Conversation with Showtime's Brendan Countee

From performer to producer, Brendan Countee's history in the industry features producing some of the most popular comedy series on television to date. Once Head of Comedy at Hulu, he now currently serves as Vice President of Original Programming at Showtime.
