GLAAD Media Awards: Ricky Martin Returns As Special Guest; Logo To Air Ceremony

EXCLUSIVE: Latino icon Ricky Martin is set to return as a special guest at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 12. The LGBTQ media advocacy organization also announced today that the awards show will air exclusively on  on April 18 at 8 PM ET/PT.

The crossover pop star-actor recently appeared on Ryan Murphy’s critically acclaimed The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story on FX opposite Penelope Cruz, Darren Criss, and Edgar Ramirez. Versace marks Martin’s return to television. He portrays Versace’s (Ramirez) longtime partner Antonio D’Amico. Martin’s involvement at the gala is being kept under wraps, but what we do know is that he will introduce one of the big moments of the evening.

Martin was honored in 2016 at the GLAAD Media Awards as an Outstanding Spanish-Language Music Artist.  In 2011, he was given the Vito Russo Award. Russo was a founding member of GLAAD and the award is presented to a media professional in the LGBTQ community who has made a significant difference in promoting equality. This year, the Vito Russo award will be given to The Handmaid’s Tale actress Samira Wiley.

Martin joins previously announced honorees Britney Spears and Jim Parsons, host Wanda Sykes, special guests Ryan Murphy, Halle Berry, Lena Waithe, Chloe Grace Moretz and others.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to accelerate acceptance of the LGBTQ community.
