Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Though we don’t know now, we can tell you where she will be in 2019. The infamous international thief, known for her red trench coat and fedora will be making an appearance on Netflix. A twenty episode series is in the making with the show focusing on Carmen’s past and what lead her to become a thief. The voice of Carmen will be played by ‘Jane the Virgin’ star, Gina Rodriguez.

Rodriguez will be following the footsteps of other iconic Latinas who have played Carmen in the past, such as Rita Moreno and Carmen Miranda. According to Remezcla, “the original Carmen Sandiego character design was inspired by musical bombshell Carmen Miranda.” Later, when the 1990s animated version was made, it was voiced by oscar-winning actress Rita Moreno.

The character was first seen on ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego,’ a computer game franchise that was introduced during the 1980’s. The series of educational computer games was designed to teach children geography, but later branched into other topics. The show will be produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and have “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, who will be the voice of Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend.

We are eager to see Gina Rodriguez’ portrayal of Carmen Sandiego and how the character will be revamped to fit this new era. It’s nice to see so many of our favorite shows make a comeback and return to the big screen.
