Fusion, the multiplatform network from ABC News and Univision Communications aimed at millennials, is going for grins and giggles on YouTube and other platforms with the launch of digital comedy studio F-Comedy.
The programmer is working with YouTube creators as well as talent from partners including the Upright Citizens Brigade — the comedy troupe founded and owned by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh — as well as The Stand and Wit.tv.
Under its agreement with YouTube, Fusion’s F-Comedy will have a production residency at YouTube Spaces in L.A. with access to equipment, sound stages and post-production facilities. The shortform video clips from F-Comedy will premiere on a dedicated YouTube channel and also will be featured across Fusion’s social, digital, over-the-top and cable TV platforms.
Talent agency and production firm 3 Arts Entertainment is serving as advisers to Fusion for F-Comedy. 3 Arts has produced comedy series such as “Silicon Valley,” “Broad City,” “The Mindy Project” and “Parks and Recreation” and also manages comedic talent including Louis CK, Amy Poehler, Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling.
“We know that traditional methods of identifying talent and delivering content are changing every day,” Fusion CEO Isaac Lee said in announcing F-Comedy, “and our comedy studio brings together leaders in comedy and short-form storytelling arenas to generate content that informs and provokes while also being highly entertaining.”
Fusion has dabbled in comedy since it launched in the summer of 2013. Its lineup has included “No, You Shut Up!” hosted by Paul F. Tompkins and “The Chris Gethard Show,” which premiered last month starring the Upright Citizens Brigade alum. Fusion also tapped “The Daily Show” Latino correspondent Al Madrigal for a special on identity, called “Half Like Me.”
