Filmmaker:

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York to Dominican parents, Kase Peña always had a passion for art and ascribes her identity and upbringing as motivations for always pursuing her dream of being a writer, director, and actor. She has now worked on a number of films and has made an impact on the industry by adding inclusion and positive representations into her work, telling stories that are important but that are not talked about often. Kase recently made history as the first Transgender Latinx Woman to get hired as a staff writer on a scripted TV show when she joined the writing team of Brujas, created by showrunner Tanya Saracho. This past January, Pena shadowed Emmy Award–winning director-showrunner Jill Soloway on Transparent’s musical finale. An active WGA member, she is the only known Transgender Latinx woman to join the Writers Guild of America, West.

Kase was a finalist and directed Full Beat under Latino Lens: Shorts Narrative Incubator in 2018. The project was picked up and licensed by HBO.
