Rosy Cordero Joins Deadline As Senior TV Reporter

Rosy Cordero has joined the Deadline team as Senior TV Reporter. She will be joining the on-growing Deadline team that includes Co-Editor-In-Chief Nellie Andreeva, Television Editor Peter White, Senior Managing Editor Denise Petski and TV Reporter Alexandra Del Rosario.
Cordero’s role will continue to allow her to uplift talent from marginalized communities while taking on Deadline’s Diversity and Inclusion coverage.

‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ Filmmakers including Lil Rel Howery Take on American Political Insurrection Film

The producers that were behind the Oscar-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah team up with actor Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) for a new project that will be centered around American political insurrection.
There is little to be known about the project but what we do now is that the film will be set in modern times. Along with that we should expect to see the film span across a variety of different genres.

"THE GARCIAS" ANNOUNCE COMPLETE CAST MEMBERS FOR FIRST SEASON COMING TO HBO/MAX
NEW CADENCE PRODUCTIONS (NCP) IS NOW IN PRODUCTION ON THIS 10 EPISODE RE-BOOT OF THE BROTHERS GARCIA
Los Angeles, CA (JULY 7, 2021) – New Cadence Productions (NCP) announced today the cast line up for the re-boot of the hit series “The Brothers Garcia” called “The Garcias.”
“The Garcias” cast includes original cast members Ada Maris as Sonia Garcia; Carlos LaCamara as Ray Garcia; Vaneza Pitynski as Lorena Garcia; Bobby Gonzalez as George Garcia; Alvin Alvarez as Larry Garcia and Jeffrey Licon as Carlos Garcia.
New cast members include Oliver Alexander as Max Garcia; Nitzia Chama as Ana Garcia; Maeve Garay as Victoria Garcia; Elsha Kim as Yunjin Huh Garcia; Ayva Severy as Andrea Huh Garcia; and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Alexa Huh Garcia.
“The Garcias” is currently in production in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, in and around the town of Puerto Aventuras. It is a slice of life of an American family that just happens to be Latino. By shooting the show in San Antonio, Texas and Mexico, the series juxtaposes an American Latino family in Mexico.
“We are really excited with our large cast,” said NCP Partner and show creator Jeff Valdez “They truly reflect America as it looks today. The stories and characters are not cookie cutter stereotypes. Since the show is serialized, audiences will be able to follow and embrace the fun and complex characters in our slice of life show. We posted the new cast members’ final auditions on our Instagram page @thegarciatstv and it’s really moving to see the emotional moment we captured when an actor gets the role.”
“The Garcias” is slated to come to HBO Max later this year.

‘Encanto’ Trailer: Disney Evokes the Magic of Colombia With Music by Lin-Manuel Miranda

Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer for “Encanto,” which releases this November.
Marking Disney’s 60th animated feature, the Colombia-set film will follow family members who all possess magical powers, like super-strength, shape-shifting and the abilities to control animals and plants. However, Mirabel, voiced by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “In the Heights” star Stephanie Beatriz, is the only person to not possess a special gift. When she discovers that her family’s magic might be under threat, she realizes that she is the only one who can save it.

‘Birds of Passage’s’ Cristina Gallego Produces Laura Mora’s Next

Cristina Gallego, who directed and produced the 2018 Cannes Director’s Fortnight hit “Birds of Passage”, will be taking on her next project as she is set to produce “Kings of the World”. The upcoming project is set to shoot this month in Medellin and Bajo Cauca, Columbia. The “Kings” film is set up at Gallego’s Bogota-based Ciudad Lunar, the shingle behind Oscar-nominated “Embrace of the Serpent” and Mirlanda Torres’ La Selva Producciones. Universal Moves Film Licensing Deal From HBO to Peacock, Bolstering Streaming Service

Universal will move its pay-one window for films from HBO to Peacock--both owned by Comcast. The move is another sign of the importance that media conglomerates are placing on boosting their in-house streaming services as they are in a fight for subscribers. The new deal will start in 2022. The studio hopes that by separating content across multiple platforms, it can refresh them across the streaming ecosystem to avoid over-saturation or having films seem stale.

Erika Dilday, Exec Director of American Documentary, Talks About ‘POV’s’ New Season and the PBS-Ken Burns Controversy

Erika Dilday, who earlier this year became the first Black executive director of American Documentary Inc.. She oversees various ventures for the nonprofit, including management of the long-running “POV” series on PBS and “America ReFramed,” a showcase of independent documentaries on the World Channel.
She was the previous executive director of the Maysles Documentary Center, where she helped produce Albert Maysles’ final film “In Transit”. She then joined AmDoc from Futuro Media Group where she had been the CEO since 2017. Now as she takes on a new position she discusses what audiences could expect to see from “POV”’s upcoming season.

All rights Adds Mexican Animation ‘Agavia’ to the Cannes Market Slate

All Rights Entertainment has decided to pick up the representation of the upcoming animated film “Agavia and the Forgotten Kingdom”. This film depicts factual and accurate Mexican mythology, tradition, and heritage in a fun and unique animated style.
The film is being produced by the Guadalajara-based company, Metacube Entertainment. The project reconnects writer Pancho ‘Rodriguez, producer Estefani Gaona, and director Carlos Gutierrez, who all had previously worked together on “Salma’s Big Wish”.The film is in pre-production currently and is expected to have an anticipated debut in 2023. ‘Mulan’ Star Gong Li is Set as Chairman of Beijing Film Festival Jury

Gong Li the ‘Mulan’ actor will be serving as the chairman of the international jury during the Tiantan Awards at the Beijing International Film Festival. The event is set to be in-person in Beijing from August 14th-21st, 2021.
Li was chosen for the position due to her past roles as a jury chairmen for previous major festivals, such as the 50th Berlin International Film Festival and the 59th Venice International Film Festival. To learn more about Li and her life achievements click here.

Netflix has released the trailer of the three-part docuseries that will be following Naomi Osaka. The docuseries will give an intimate and in-depth look into Osaka’s life and career, showcasing every step she took to get to where she is today.
From the nonstop training to her experience at the U.S Open to the connection of her late mentor Kobe Bryant. This docuseries showcases it all in Osaka’s life and gets the viewer to connect with her emotionally through all of her hard work and efforts.

'Summer of Soul,' Questlove’s Scorching New Documentary About the Long-Lost ‘Black Woodstock’ Is Now on Hulu

Summer of Soul is a captivating new music documentary that is focused around the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. This documentary is the directorial debut for Ahmir Thompson better known as “Questlove”.
The documentary is considered to follow the “Black Woodstock”, as over the course of six weeks in 1969 the Harlem Cultural Festival celebrated Black history, culture, and fashion in the same summer as Woodstock, which took place just a hundred miles away in upstate New York from August 15-18.

Sam Richardson’s Multiple ‘Tomorrow War’ Injuries Required a WWE “Super Doctor”

Sam Richardson has taken the leap from the comedy genre to action with the premiere of his latest movie The Tomorrow War which premiered on Amazon. In a recent interview with the New York Times, the actor was excited to share just how excited he was to take on an action role and move out of the comedy category.
The 37-year old actor was infatuated with this role to where he took the approach of his character’s physique to be balanced between looking average but being physically fit. While he was training for his role that is when he ran into his first injury.
