The NALIP special screening of “Blindspotting,” this past Monday was a success as NALIP members filled the Landark Theatre and brought insightful questions for the Q&A with Director Carlos López Estrada. If you weren’t able to attend make sure to check which theaters near you will be screening the limited premiere on July 20th as well as the extended nationwide premiere on July 27th, but meanwhile watch our recap video here!

With the Emmy nominations out, we can’t help but wonder who of our favorite Latinx community made it to the list. Although it did not wipe out most nominations, like HBO’s Game of Thrones, there were nomination like that of Ryan Murphy’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace which nominated three of Latinx superstars including Ricky Martin, Penelope Cruz and Edgar Ramirez. America’s favorite composer came back and with just one episode under his belt, Lin-Manuel Miranda was able to snatch a nomination for Guest Actor in a Comedy series for Curb your Enthusiasm, John Leguizamo received a nomination for Waco and Antonio Banderas for Genius: Picasso.
The Handmaid’s Tale, Atlanta, One Day at a Time, and The Terror are among the best TV shows of 2018 so far. Hulu/FX/Netflix/AMC

The NALIP Latino Lens Incubators is an exclusive incubation and media content production program designed to develop, nurture, and advance Latino content creators’ projects in efforts to showcase their talents as producers, directors, and writers. This year at the NALIP Media Summit incubator Fellows were present to talk about their work and to tease their upcoming projects. Both Latino Lens Narrative Shorts Incubator funded by the Time Warner Foundation and the NALIP/WORLD Channel Beyond Graduation Digital Incubator funded by CPB are in final stages and will be showcased at the Latino Media Fest in the Fall. Even with the increased demand for episodic content, women of color remain offensively underrepresented in behind-the-camera positions. The jobs are out there, but WOC are not being considered for them. To address this bias, NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) put together a discussion with five prominent female directors during this year’s Media Summit.
