Fox has put in development Forte, a supernatural musical soap based on the Fox International series Cumbia Ninja, from writer Justin Lo (Parenthood, Mistresses), producer Ben Silverman (Jane the Virgin), former Devious Maids star Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter (Secrets and Lies).
Written by Lo, Forte is set in mystical Miami where magical beings have lived secretly among humans for decades. Two rival nightclubs set the stage for this Latin soap that will explore our fractured American society through tales of unrequited love, the perils of greed and, above all, the power of música.
Lo executive produces with Silverman and Sean Canino via Propagate and the married producing duo of Winter and Sanchez. 20th Century Fox Television produces with FX International and Silverman’s Propagate.
“Justin has created a timely series set in a captivating, fantastical world that we can’t wait to bring to life with our partners Eric Winter, Roselyn Sanchez and 20th Century Fox Television,” said Silverman, who is executive producing the Charmed reboot pilot for the CW.
Cumbia Ninja was a Fox International Channels Latin America production created by Andrés Gelós and produced by Nelson Martínez and María Gowland. It ran for three seasons from 2013-15. You can see a trailer of Cumbia Ninja below.
Sanchez starred as Carmen Luna on Devious Maids and has been cast as the female lead in ABC drama pilot Grand Hotel from Devious Maids executive producers Eva Longoria and Brian Tanen.
Winter, who recently recurred on ABC’s The Good Doctor, co-stars in the network’s new straight-to-series comedic drama The Rookie.
Lo is repped by Rothman Brecher Ehrich Livingston, Art/Work Entertainment and Loeb & Loeb. Sanchez is repped by APA and Alchemy Entertainment and Winter by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
