NALIP Receives Grant from Hollywood Foreign Press Association

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, on the occasion of its annual Installation Luncheon, has presented over $1.2 million in grants to 40 entertainment-related non profits and cultural institutions including NALIP, LACMA, Sundance Institute, American Cinematheque, FilmAid International, The Film Foundation, UCLA, CalArts, Outfest, LA Conservancy and Film Independent.

Speaking at the opening of the ceremonies, HFPA president Dr. Aida O'Reilly said:  "Thanks to the diligence of the members to produce a successful Golden Globes we are able to expand the philanthropy branch of the Association."


NPR Announces Plans to Form Race, Ethnicity Coverage Team

National Public Radio, criticized in recent years for a lack of diversity of its staff and coverage, is using a $1.5 million grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to put together a six-person team to report stories on race, ethnicity and culture. NPR said that it is using the money to "launch a major storytelling initiative focused on the racial, ethnic, ideological and generational issues that define an increasingly diverse America."

The California Documentary Project (CDP) is a competitive grants program of Cal Humanities that supports documentary film, radio, and new media productions that enhance understanding of California and its cultures, peoples, and histories. Projects should use the humanities to provide context, depth, and perspective and be suitable for California and national audiences through broadcast and/or distribution....

Call for Entries: Slamdance Film Festival

The 19th Annual Slamdance Film Festival is accepting films in the following categories: Narrative Features, Documentary Features, Narrative Shorts, Animated Shorts, Documentary Shorts, and Special Screenings.

The festival will be held January 18-24, 2013 in Park City, Utah. Regular submission deadline is Sept. 5, 2012.


Call for Entries: WorldNomads Travel Film Scholarship

The 2012 WorldNomads Travel Film Scholarship is off to Rio de Janeiro capture Brazil's most vibrant cultural festival - Carnival! Spend 10 days in Rio under the mentorship of filmmaker Trent O'Donnell, producing 3-5 three-minute travel-themed videos that will be considered for broadcast on Nat Geo Adventure. Any non-professionals can apply - this is open to film students, or anyone who's trying to build a career in film making and/or presenting.
