Lourdes Portillo Awarded Americo Paredes Arts and Letters Award


Filmmaker and Oscar nominee Lourdes Portillo has been awarded the the Americo Paredes Arts and Letters Award by the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) at the University of Texas at Austin. Portillo's career in film has spanned over 40 years, and includes an upcoming retrospective entitled "Lourdes Portillo: La Cineasta Inquisitiva" at MOMA in New York City, opening June 22, 2012.

Isabel Cueva's 'In the Name of Freedom' Premiering on TV


NALIP member Isabel Cueva's award-winning short, In the Name of Freedom, will have its television premiere this Memorial Day at 11pm Eastern (8pm Pacific) on the Shorts HD channel for AT&T U-Verse and DirecTV subscribers. The film is a tough, gritty, uncensored war film about peace. The story follows a female American soldier, Lisa Meyers (Cueva) who is captured in Iraq but saved by one of her captors.
