PBS Moving 'Independent Lens' and 'POV' to Monday Night

Just weeks after hundreds of independent filmmakers protested a scheduling change for two award-winning independent film series on PBS, the broadcaster said Wednesday that it would move both series, "Independent Lens" and "POV," to a Monday night slot and begin promotional efforts to recover viewers who were lost this season. The average number of viewers for new episodes of "Independent Lens" dropped 39 percent from October 2011 through March, after the show was bumped from the Tuesday night schedule.

Patricia Martinez de Velasco's 'Aqui Entre Nos' Screening at Hola Mexcio Film Festival

NALIP 2012 Estela Award winner Patricia Martinez de Velasco's feature film Aqui Entre Nos will be screening at the Hola Mexico Film Festival in Los Angeles on Sun., May 27 at 4:30pm and Wed., May 30, at 7:30pm. The story is about Rodolfo Guerra, father of three daughters, who wakes up one morning and decides not to go to work; he is tired of being mistreated by his wife. In that one day in which the family routine is broken, Rodolfo opens his eyes and realizes that he is a perfect stranger in his own home.  Rodolfo knows that he is risking his job, yet he still takes the time to put the puzzle pieces together to discover many unknown truths that are present among his daily life.

Juan Sotelo's Short Wins at 48 Hours Sacramento

NALIP member Juan Sotelo, a managing partner of independent film company Film Antics, won the award for "Outstanding Comedy 48 Hour Film 2012" at the Sacramento International Film Festival, for his film Stare Straight Crew.

The fiction short is an inside look at the wacky world of rival Staring champions as they train for the next World Championship and the affection of their Master guru.
