Celluloid Ceiling: Women Comprised Only 5% of Directors in 2011

Women remained vastly underrepresented behind the camera in the movie business in 2011, a study to be released Tuesday shows. Last year, women comprised 18 percent of directors, executive producers, writers, cinematographers and editors working on the 250 top-grossing domestic films.

Latino Public Broadcasting has commissioned the production of Street Knowledge to College, a documentary web series that will feature a dynamic collection of short films by and about at-risk students who are overcoming obstacles and successfully graduating high school. Jennifer Maytorena Taylor will direct with Specific Pictures, Claudia Gómez will co-produce.

NALIP Board Member Bernardo Ruiz's Doc Premiering Feb. 15

NALIP Board member Bernardo Ruiz's feature documentary Reportero premieres in Mexico City on Feb. 15th as part of the Ambulante film festival. Reportero follows a veteran reporter and his colleagues at ZETA, a Tijuana- based muckraking weekly, as they stubbornly ply their trade in what has become one of the deadliest places in the world to be a journalist.

NALIPster Michael Centeno Launches Latino Themed Podcast

NALIPster Michael Centeno has launched a Latino themed podcast, Elusive Minds: Film and Cultura. Approaching its 10th episode, the new podcast is now available for free on iTunes. In addition to talking about film, the podcast brings in artists, poets, musicians and activists who are doing amazing work in their communities.
