The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), presented by Miami Dade College (MDC) will be celebrating its fifth year of Miami Encuentros. This breakthrough program gives emerging producers from Spain and Latin America the opportunity to present new projects to U.S. and international industry professionals, including producers, sales agents, television stations and distributors.
This year, the Miami International Film Festival and Miami Encuentros Director Diana Sanchez have chosen 9 filmmakers to participate in Encuentros including NALIP Latino Producers Academy fellow Aurora Guerrero and her LPA Project MOSQUITO Y MARI. The program is sponsored by Eastman Kodak and Entertainment Partners.
This intensive three-day event fosters dialogue, builds lasting connections and offers opportunities for networking and the nurturing of the next generation of filmmakers, providing access to distributors and ultimately to the public.
"With Miami Encuentros, we are putting rhetoric into action" says Festival Director Nicole Guillemet. "Having a brilliant vision is only part of the cinematic equation. Miami Encuentros engages emerging filmmakers by helping them bring that vision into fruition and ultimately enriching the process as a whole."

Feb. 16, 2007 - (Variety) - The biblical Tower of Babel story recounts how God scattered humanity across the earth and gave people distinct and divisive languages. But the films in this year's Oscar race seem to suggest the world is more globally unified and polyglot than ever before. "Babel" is, of course, the most obvious example. Filmed in five languages in four countries -- Japan, Mexico, Morocco and the U.S. -- the film, both in its making and its content, is all about "breaking boundaries" and "globalization," says Oscar-nommed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. "We are all traveling in the same boat, no matter what side of the boat you're in," he says. "Finally, the world is getting closer, not only in an economic way, but in the ideas that we share." "The barriers that once existed between different countries are breaking down," echoes Paramount Vantage topper John Lesher, who not only shepherded "Babel" into theaters but once repped Inarritu, among other foreign helmers, at Endeavor.
