Showtime proudly announces its 8th Annual Latino Filmmaker Showcase. Committed to supporting up-and-coming Hispanic talent, Showtime is now seeking submissions from aspiring directors. We invite you to enter your 15-30 minute short film for consideration. Three to five finalists will be selected. These films will be featured on the Showtime network during Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15th- Oct. 15th) 2007. One winner will be selected among the finalists to receive a $30,000 grant to produce an original short film that will premiere exclusively on Showtime. Theme: The Chicano/Mexican-American Reality in the U.S.

WHO: Cine Cuauhtemoc Pan American Film Festival is a project of Museo Guadalupe Aztlan, a non-profit museum established in March 1994. Our film festival was founded in 1999, and our host site is the University of Houston-Downtown.

WHAT: Independent works in film are being accepted by or about the Chicano/Mexican-American community in all genres. Formats may be VHS or DVD. Spanish subtitles are recommended but not required.

WHERE: Cine Cuauhtemoc Pan American Film Festival is preparing its touring program within and throughout the United States. Submitted works will be considered for presentation at various colleges and universities. In 2006, for example, we presented festivals at sites such as Laredo Community College in Laredo, TX, Cy-Fair Community College in Cypress, TX and other sites. Currently, we are mounting a touring exhibit at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Nuevo Leon (Mexico) and at the Houston Community College.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: The postmarked deadline is May 31, 2007, and a $15.00 fee is required per artist. All works submitted remain in the possession of MGA, unless a self-addressed, pre-stamped envelope is included for returning works submitted. (Download Entry Form from our website:

In MANZANITA, A Violent Affair, a transgender youth is forced to serve as a man in the Colombian military forces, but when his regiment falls captive by the guerrilla forces in the jungle, everybody’s life is changed forever. The threat of discovery and death hang over the passion consuming Manzanita and his impossible love. The play was based on the novel ESPÉRAME EN EL CIELO, CAPITÁN (Wait For Me In Heaven, Captain) by Jorge Enrique Botero Lince, a Colombian journalist and novelist who has chronicled the ongoing war in Colombia for decades.

Mar. 7, 2007 - (indieWIRE) - The first full weekend post-Oscars went out with a sigh as far as box office windfall goes, though Academy Award winners "The Lives of Others," "The Queen," "The Last King of Scotland," and "Pan's Labyrinth" along with Samuel Goldwyn/Roadside Attraction's "Amazing Grace" represented over 80% of the entire specialty box office's $8.13 million Friday to Sunday gross, as tabulated by Rentrack Theatrical. Sony Classics' "Lives of Others" added screens, as did other Oscar honorees, and took the top spot of the iW BOT as ranked on a per screen basis, though the per site average dipped. Second on the chart was New Yorker's "Bamako," while THINKFilm's "Avenue Montaigne" placed third after adding screens. IFC First Take's "Wild Tigers I Have Known" topped the weekend's few new arrivals landing fourth in the chart. Full Story here


Mar. 6, 2007 - (Variety) - Si TV is saying yes to America's heartland. Parent Insight Communications announced Monday that the English-language net targeted at Latinos 18-34 will launch in Midwest states including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. "It's an interesting launch," said a Si TV spokesman. "These aren't exactly the markets that you would typically think of having a huge Latino population. The programming definitely reaches urban youth, but it's culturally skewed toward Latino culture." Si TV's original programming includes "Jammin'," an underground music program featuring breaking Latino rock bands noodling with their music idols such as Los Lobos and Joan Jett, and "Dating Factory," an irreverent twist on dating exec produced by thesp Mario Lopez. Net reaches 13.8 million homes through cable and satellite providers including AT&T, Cox, Comcast, Insight, Qwest, Time Warner Cable, Verizon and Dish Network. Full Story here



The Nielsen Company's Management Development Rotation Program (MDRP) is a challenging 18-20 month program for talented high performing individuals. Through special training, guidance and education, the program seeks to foster the development of future managers/leaders and provide a continuous pipeline of new and emerging talent to the Nielsen organization. The program is designed to develop a multi-skilled, multi-talented workforce through exposure to: our businesses, a variety of functional disciplines, and educational experiences. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are placed within one of our business units. Our next MDR Program will run from July 2007 through February 2009.

The MDR Program consists of three major components:

1) Cross-Functional Rotation Assignments: The main learning component of the MDR program is the rotation assignments which provide on-the-job learning and broad
breadth of knowledge. Through project assignments, participants gain invaluable practical work experience. The assignments are cross-functional in nature and span
across different geographical areas. The selection of projects/assignments depends on several variables including: businesses needs, participants background,
experience, desired career path, and project availability.

2) Training & Development: Participants are also supported throughout their tenure in the program with training that will enable them to meet their development objectives.
The coursework content focuses on the following areas: The Media Industry, Media Clients, Business Processes, Media Technology, and a wide variety of Professional
Development classes.

3) Mentoring: Each MDR participant is paired up with a more experienced person (mentor) who assists the participant (mentee) in developing skills and knowledge that
will enhance the participants professional and personal growth. The mentor provides direction to participants with rotation assignments, career planning, and individual
development planning and post-program placement.

This highly competitive Program expects and looks for excellence in candidates who bring diverse backgrounds to innovation and problem solving. We look for well-rounded recent college graduates who possess the following qualities:
. Undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher (average participant G.P.A is 3.50)
. Graduated within the last 2 years
. Leadership role in college and/or extra curricular activities
. Willingness and ability to travel extensively and willingness to commit to a multiyear career with The Nielsen Company after completion of program
. Must be willing to relocate anywhere in the US upon completion of the program
. Strong desire to enter and develop within the media industry
. Demonstrated background in taking initiative
. Capacity and motivation for hard work and commitment to excellence
. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
. Excellent organizational, leadership and problem solving skills
. Strong PC Skills
