BEYOND GREEN - PRODUCTION FOR YOUNG FILMMAKERS

Have you been thinking about the environment in which you live? If so, we’d like to consider hiring you to make a film.

Listen Up! and Adobe Youth Voices announces Beyond Green, an international film project that will ask youth filmmakers worldwide, ages 13-19, to produce short personal stories that answer two important questions:
How do you and people in your community interact with the environment? Is there a better way?

We’ll help you make a great film. In fact, we are prepared to provide selected organizations a $10,000 production award and lots of support. The deadline for applications is June 29th — but contact us immediately if interested.

Listen Up! wants filmmakers and people concerned with their environment to think beyond green and grasp original ideas that reflect the physical and cultural environments that they live in. We encourage youth to investigate environment considerations for themselves, to add their voices to mainstream media.

Visit http://listenup.org/beyondgreen for all of the details.

LADRON QUE ROBA A LADRON

Hey everyone,

The latest film we produced LADRON QUE ROBA A LADRON is coming out through Lionsgate August 31st at a theater near you (if by chance, you live in a Hispanic neighborhood). Its the first Spanish language popcorn movie made the US Hispanic population. LADRON is a heist film in the great Hollywood tradition but with more humor and a lot more heart.

Keep an eye out for this one and pass this poster on to anyone who cares. Let's get viral!

In 1946, French poet René Char wrote, “He who joined the Resistance, found himself.” Something similar happens to the garment workers in this documentary when they embark on a three-year odyssey to win basic labor protections from mega-trendy clothing retailer Forever 21. In intimate vérité style, filmmaker Almudena Carracedo chronicles the lives of three Latina sweatshop workers who endure 14-hour days and soul-crushing conditions in L.A.’s Fashion District. The drama lies in the length of their struggle. As their initial euphoria gives way to fear and frustration, Carracedo perseveres with them, revealing the incredible courage it takes to bring about real political change.

REMAKING DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Jun. 21, 2007 - LOS ANGELES (Variety) - "In cultural tourism, L.A. ranks at the bottom," says downtown gadfly and neighborhood activist Brady Westwater. Westwater, who sees himself as the "curator" of downtown, envisions a constant stream of film festivals, comedy walks, fashion events and other cultural happenings keeping downtown sidewalks busy and populated. Ostensibly the infrastructure will soon be in place to make this possible. With downtown's population estimated to rise from 29,000 to as high as 60,000 by the end of next year, at least according to projections by the Anschutz Entertainment Group, residents eager for movies and smaller legit theaters in their neighborhood should keep the wheels of commerce churning. The trick will be to convince Angelenos from other areas to get in the habit of getting their entertainment downtown, even when they're not visiting Disney Concert Hall. FULL STORY HERE

GROWN UP FILMS VIE FOR VIEWERS IN SUMMER

Jun. 19, 2007 - LOS ANGELES (The New York Times) - When Gary Palmucci, the general manager of a small New York film distributor, was picking a date to release “Lady Chatterley,” a buzzed-about French retelling of the steamy D. H. Lawrence story, he knew he wanted to open the movie in the summer. Sexy movies for grown-ups like “Swimming Pool,” “2046” and “Pauline at the Beach” have proven the appetite for eroticism in the sultry weather. But when, exactly, was there room on the 2007 summer calendar? His concern wasn’t about the barrage of Hollywood sequels, studio extravaganzas like “Spider-Man 3,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” and “Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” Rather, he was eyeing the onslaught of movies from the proliferating list of rival independents and the studios’ specialty labels, all trafficking in adult fare that in the past would have likely been released after Labor Day.
