NALIP Mentors and Members Rally at WGA Strike

Call for Entries: Poster Contest for Chicago Latino Film Festival

Enter for the chance to win $500 and have your design become the face of the Festival; it will be on the cover of one million newsprint schedules that are inserted in various Chicago newspapers. Your artwork will be on invitations, program books, t-shirts and much more. The winning design will be selected by a panel of industry judges in the fields of design, arts, public relations and marketing. The winning poster will be unveiled during a mid-January 2008 reception

Deadline: Friday, November 30, 2007 at 5:00 p.m

* The contest is open to all artists. All entries must be received by deadline: Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:00 p.m.
* There is no limit to the number of entries submitted.
* IMPORTANT: Entries must be mounted on an 8 1/2"w by 11"h board.
* May use colors and design concepts that create a strong graphic presentation.
* The design must be easily translated to a variety of print materials such as 30" by 36" size posters, new print ads, cotton t-shirts, bus ads, film, etc.
* Incorporate "24th Chicago Latino Film Festival, April 4–16, 2008" in the artwork.
* Include your name, address, email and phone number on the back of each submission.
* Entries will be evaluated based on appeal, content and marketability. The decision of the judges is final.
* The International Latino Cultural Center does not assume responsibility for submissions. Artists providing a self-addressed stamped envelope will have their design(s) returned.

Chelo Alvarez
Wins Dean LA Film Grant

NALIP member Chelo Alvarez (right,) producer/director for the documentary SOLD IN AMERICA, along with producer/director of photography Cari Lutz (center) were awarded the 2007 Roy W. Dean LA Film Grant by Carole Joyce (left,) of From the Heart Productions, a non profit dedicated to funding films that are “unique and make a contribution to society.” These grants are available for shorts and low budget independents as well as documentary filmmakers.

Sold in America is a modern-day tale of sex slavery that weaves the stories of women sold in the United States at an early age and their struggle to find freedom. In this character-driven documentary, we see how these women leave behind their harrowing past and become survivors who are now fighting to change the laws that shield the traffickers as well as helping to free those still entrapped.

Wins at Cine Sin Fin

Marcial Rios Salcido, won Best Director at the 13th annual Cine Sin Fin Chicano film festival on Saturday November 10th. Cine Sin Fin is dedicated to fostering artistic achievement and cross-cultural understanding.

"A director is only as good as his crew. This award is in honor to my producers, actors, crew and family. Maquillaje was a labor of love and I¹m extremely excited that it¹s beginning to pay off." Marcial is known for his work in bilingual music television, and his short film, "La Tierra del Dolor."

Maquillaje follows the story of Monica, a used car lot clown with "big girl" syndrome, and her life in a small border town.

Voting is open for NALIP member Shawna Baca's “Chillin’ with the Gonzalezes” as featured in the Myspace/FOX Television Storyteller Challenge.

"Chillin' with the Gonzalezes" is the story of a blue-collar couple whose lives are constantly interrupted by their conniving live-in Grandma and her best friend and partner-in-crime: a cutthroat saleswoman trapped in the body of a nine-year-old neighbor girl. This is the "Granny Krumps" episode.
