When John Rade, a legendary fisherman from Montauk, NY, was asked how he managed to successfully and routinely catch more fish than all the other fisherman in Montauk he replied, "I think like a fish, not like a fisherman."

Sounds silly, but it's very profound.

Most aspiring screenwriters approach their careers and this business from the perspective of their own needs and desires. Listen, it's important to be clear on what you want. I'm a huge believer that clarity is power and communicating your intention is a must. But, that's only part of the equation.

John Rade is clear on what he wants... fish, lots of them. But, his unique approach has resulted in legendary status.

Disney Channel Orders More of NALIPster Peter Murietta's "Wizards of Waverly Place"

Disney Channel has ordered a third season of the hit comedy series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and additional second-season episodes of the highly-rated "The Suite Life on Deck."

In the third season of "Wizards of Waverly Place," Alex's (Selena Gomez) best friend, Harper (Jennifer Stone), moves in with the Russos. In addition, "Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie," will premiere on Disney Channel in August 2009. In the movie, the Russo family embark on a vacation to the Caribbean resort where Jerry (David DeLuise) and Theresa (Maria Canals-Barrera) first met. "Wizards of Waverly Place" also stars David Henrie as Justin and Jake T. Austin as Max.

New episodes of "Wizards of Waverly Place" air SATURDAYS (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel.

With their second-season extension, "The Suite Life on Deck" has the longest running continuous characters on Disney Channel. In the series, identical twins Zack and Cody Martin (played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, respectively) and London Tipton (Brenda Song) have embarked on a semester-at-sea aboard a luxurious cruise liner. New episodes premiering in Fall 2009 will introduce the character Marcus Little played by Larramie "Doc" Shaw (House of Payne). The show also stars Phill Lewis as Mr. Mosby and Debby Ryan as Bailey Pickett.

"The Suite Life On Deck" airs FRIDAYS (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. Starting June 15 encore episodes of the show will join the lineup on Disney XD where the show airs daily (7:00-7:30 a.m., ET/PT).

NALIPster's doc having broadcast premiere on KPBS San Diego, May 26

NALIP member Kevin Bender's documentary film Thinking Grande! will have its broadcast premiere on Tuesday, May 26th at 9:30pm on San Diego's public television station KPBS. This documentary about Mexican immigrant Jose Luis Bonilla who worked twenty years building his 'Mexican Disneyland' in the heart of California recently won the Central Coast Filmmaker Showcase Best Film award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.

NALIP member Linda Garcia Merchant's documentary Palabras Dulces, Palabras Amargas (Sweet Words, Bitter Words) premiered on May 14th at the National Museum of Mexican Art as part of this year's 2009 Sor Juana Performing Arts Festival in Chicago. Palabras Dulces, Palabras Amargas is a 45 minute documentary featuring the work of La Dulce Palabra Spoken Word Ensemble. A multicultural, multigenerational spoken word ensemble. Six original works performed by their authors, this film touches on the universal understanding that we are not alone; that life is a shared and relative experience.
