Deadline Extended: Ultimate Filmmaker Comptetition

Get your feature film produced and distributed with this dynamic, all-inclusive filmmaking competition that will launch and/or establish your life as a filmmaker. The winning entrant will receive a minimum $200,000 cash grant along with resources for a total value of more than $500,000. And it doesnt stop there. The film will be distributed on multiple platforms simultaneously theatrical, cable and online - for maximum global exposure. No full script necessary to submit.

Deadline Approaching: Orlando Hispanic Film Festival

The final deadline is approaching for the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival, accepting feature film, short film, documentary, short documentary and feature screenplay submissions. To qualify for awards, production must include a Writer, Director, Producer, Actor, or Cinematographer of Hispanic descent; or the theme must deal with Hispanic issues.

NALIPsters Win at Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Awards

The Tribeca Film Festival along with the Tribeca Film Institute announced the winners of the sixth annual Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Awards. The winners of the Documentary section prize were NALIP members George Reyes and Claudia Lopez for La Muneca Fea (The Ugly Doll), in which a group of elderly sex workers in Mexico City seek peace and find community at a refuge established by a former colleague.

Additionally, the honorable mention in the Emerging Narrative section went to NALIP member Hugo Perez (Estela, LPA 2008) for The Immaculate Conception, in which the death of Maria's popstar husband Poblito, leaves her with the chance to make a decision that may finally bring her happiness, but requires some divine intervention.

The winners were selected from 21 eligible projects from the 27 in the program and based on the strength of their vision and filmmaking promise. The 2009 TAA Creative Promise Award comes with a prize of $11,000 for narrative, documentary and emerging narrative and $7,000 for screenwriting as well as an original piece of art from a contemporary artist. All of the filmmakers participating in the program have scripts or documentary proposals for which they are seeking funding and/or representation.


Errol Falcon
NALIPster awardeded Film Florida Legend Award

On June 23rd Film Florida awarded NALIP member and DGA director Errol Falcon with a 2009 Film Florida Legend Award. Falcon's career in television, music videos and commercials for the General and Latin markets spans over 40 years. Some of his credits as Producer or Director include "Sabado Gigante" and "Corte Tropical" for Univision, "Los Teens" for Telemundo, "Atlantic City Alive" for TBS, "Que Pasa, USA?' pilot for PBS, and the feature film, "South Beach Dreams" distributed by Warner Home Video for US and Canada, and Polychrome Pictures for international.  Also awarded were Bill Grefe and Michelle Marx, also DGA members, and Michael McGowan, Sr. (posthumous). 


Rafael Rivera
NALIPster's book about Latinos in Hollywood wins award

NALIP member Rafael Rivera's educational and historical coffee table book on 100 years of Latinos in Hollywood films, "HOLLYWOOD... Se Habla Español," has been awarded 2nd Place prize for Best Gift Book at the International Latino Book Festival held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

In recognition of the many positive contributions being made to Latino literature worldwide, Latino Literacy Now, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes literacy and literary excellence within the Latino community, created the Latino Book Awards in 1999.

The fruit of over 25 years of intensive and thorough research, written by Hollywood insider, Rafael Rivera-Viruet and journalist Max Resto, "HOLLYWOOD... Se Habla Español" highlights the careers of Latinos who made important contributions to the history of cinema and details the Latino presence in the seventh art since its very inception over one hundred years ago.
