Do You Want to Learn More About the Art and Business of Horror??

Movies are just one platform through which horror stories are told. This session looks at the business of horror and explores the almost limitless opportunities available to HORRORphiles: magazines, graphics novels, music, collectables & memorabilia, toys & games, film/TV production, and others!

Hear from experts in marketing, publishing, and filmmaking! The panel will consist of Rodrigo Gudino (publisher "Rue Morgue"), filmmaker Monica Winter Vigil (Not Even Death), filmmaker Pablo Proenza (Dark Mirror), Joe Sena (President SphereWerx/Fearwerx), and writer/director Jason Cuadrado (Tales From The Dead, Monstrous Nature)! This panel is not for the faint of heart!!

Call for Submissions: WIF TV Director Shadowing Program & Outreach Program

Women In Film (WIF) is accepting applications for two exciting programs: a Director Shadowing Program in partnership with TNT/TBS and ABC TV, and an Outreach Program in parternship with MTV.

Director Shadowing Program

TNT/TBS and ABC TV are partnering with the WIF/TV&Media Committee on a Director Shadowing Program. Four members of WIF/LA will be given the opportunity to shadow directors at ABC and TNT/TBS between March and July 2010.

The WIF/TV&Media Committee, together with the Disney/ABC Television Group Talent Development & Diversity committee, will select one member to shadow the director of "Hollywood Salutes Matt Damon: An American Cinematheque Tribute" from pre-production through live broadcast. They will select another qualified member to shadow the Executive Producer, Producer and Director of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for one week between April and the end of 2010.

Two additional WIF members will be selected by the WIF/TV&Media Committee to shadow the directors of TNT/TBS television dramas to be named shortly from prep through post-production between March and July 2010.

Emerging directors who wish to be considered for these exciting opportunities are invited to submit a DVD of a narrative work they have directed in the past three calendar years.

Remember, these opportunities are available only to WIF/Los Angeles Members who are current as of the SUBMISSION DEADLINE:Friday, March 5, 2010

Outreach Program

WIF/TV&Media is thrilled to announce, to WIF members only, an exciting new partnership with MTV, one of the most successful networks in television history.

In MTV's first initiative specifically designed for women, WIF members who are writers, producers and directors of all experiences are invited to submit one (1) idea, as a writing sample or DVD which will be evaluated by WIF/TV&Media Committee members and MTV development executives.

The top ten applicants will be able to present their ideas directly to senior members of MTV's development team on a designated pitch day in April of 2010.

Remember, this opportunity is available only to WIF/Los Angeles Members who are current as of the SUBMISSION DEADLINE:Friday, March 12, 2010

Call for Entries: Aesthetica Short Film Competition

The Aesthetica Short Film Competition is open for entries! Leading the search for filmmakers who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works the competition provides an opportunity for both new and experienced filmmakers to have their work broadcast to a wider audience. All genres of film are being accepted: drama, documentary, music video, animation, satire, comedy, artists' film and anything else you can think of!

Deadline: April 30, 2010
Films should be up to 25 minutes long. For detailed guidelines and entry visit the festival's webpage.

This award offers winners and runners-up a fantastic prize package, including:
* Screenings of your film at: The National Media Museum (Bradford), Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival (London), Glasgow Film Festival, Kerry Film Festival (Ireland), Glimmer: Hull Film Festival, Project Space Leeds and on the Aesthetica website.
* £500 first prize (apx. $800), £250 runner-up (apx. $400).
* 12 months membership with Shooting People.
* Weekend course with Raindance.
* Collection of film books from Wallflower Press.

Deadline Approaching: Outfest 2010

The submission deadline is approaching for Outfest - one of the world�s largest gay and lesbian film festivals - for completed narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films and videos (both features and shorts). Outfest 2010: The 28th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival will take place July 8-18, 2010.

Submission Deadline: March 1, 2010

Held in Los Angeles, filmmakers from across the country and around the globe are invited to submit their work and join in the celebration of the gay and lesbian community�s vision and artistry. Submission forms, rules and regulations are available on the Outfest website.
