Mia is a retelling of the Latin folklore tale La Llorona (The Weeping Woman). The film is a psychological thriller that focuses on the post-trauma that a mother who has committed an unspeakable act of violence suffers. Whenever the tale of the mother is told, it negates the pain and suffering that she endures after killing her daughter, due to the fact that in most recants of the story she commits suicide. What this film proposes is an alternate perspective, one in which lives after the violent act. This allows for more insight into how the horror of her actions affect her and slowly create a true monster; A mother who summons the dead spirits of children in search of her own. Our portrayal of this mother; is meant to bring humanity to the haunting legend of the weeping woman. Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoy my film.
