Feature-length independent documentary seeks experienced BIPOC AVID Assistant Editor for an immediate position working on a cinema verité Avid project about the intersection of the Climate Crisis, Housing Insecurity, and Systemic Inequities.  The freelance AE position would begin immediately and continue through late autumn. 


  • The Documentary Assistant Editor/AE position starts immediately (end of August) and will continue through 11/30/21.

  • The AE will work remotely and must have their own AVID system that is running the latest version software.

  • Work will begin with flexible part-time hours and then possibly expand to full-time work (there might be some nights and/or weekend work as well).

  • Location of AE is flexible but residency in the greater New York City area is a plus during Online/Film-Finishing.


RESPONSIBILITIES:  (will include but not limited to)

  • Must be fluent in Avid Media Composer, perform daily operational maintenance, and document workflow processes.

  • AE will do syncing, trans-coding and organizing footage; they should have a thorough understanding of codecs and troubleshooting; and they should be well versed with syncing, creating AAFs, exporting, converting, and posting cuts.

  • Assemble media for delivery and film finishing

  • Prepare Footage Selects, organize String-outs or create rough Scene Assemblies.

Ideally, our AE is interested in the creative process; likes to participate in story conversations with director, editor, and consultants; and has technical skills, storytelling savvy and enthusiasm for the project that could create an opportunity for advancement to Associate Editor responsibilities and credit.
