Equal Writes Screenwriting Challenge Live Pitch Competition

Equal Writes, a screenwriting challenge founded by Duly Noted, Inc. and We Make Movies has announced the finalists for the script challenge seeking "intelligent, courageous stories forged on the intersections of race, religion and gender with voices that shape the new discussion on diversity."

The chosen scripts cover a vast range of characters and genres. Some of the subject matter includes a love story following a latina woman in a post- economic collapse state-run U.S., a comedy about a hoarder whose O.C.D. accidentally leads her on a killing spree, a coming of age drama between a young black girl and old Armenian man in an inner city, and a drama following a black female GI returning to normalcy after life in Iraq.

On June 30, the finalists will stand on stage at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater before a live audience and panel of producers to pitch their scripts in a reality style competition. The goal is that the producers will like all the pitches enough to make each of these films. But at least one writer will receive enough audience and panelist votes to score a $2,500 option as well other perks to help get the film off the ground. The final footage will be aired as a web series.

Sundance veteran Effie T. Brown (HBO's Real Women Have Curves, Google/YouTube Channel WIGS) will be one of the judges that will sit on the panel. RED and MovieMaker Magazine are set as official sponsors of the event.
