New York’s only monthly series for Latino multimedia-makers & actors

A forum for Latinos and their supporters to connect and sustain one another from English and Spanish-language media, as well as featuring conversations with industry thought-leaders and screenings.

2012 has been declared the "Year of the Latina" and all year long will showcase stellar Latinas behind or in front of the camera and Latinos who present Latinas in positive and affirming roles.

7:30PM: Tio Louie CONVERSATION with Elsie Stark, a bilingual Casting Director with 25 years of experience in the industry and owner of Stark Naked Productions. She started in production then became a talent agent and finally a casting director. Her background and language skills have made Stark Naked Productions the premiere casting office for Spanish language projects as well as many other languages. Come and learn her insights about casting actors in projects that range from film to television series and from theater to advertising commercials, as well as the do’s and don’t’s about landing that job.

8:30PM: Cristina Ibarra, an accomplished documentary filmmaker has broadcast nationally on PBS and her recent film project Las Marthas, has received grant awards ranging from LPB to ITVS and the TFI Heineken VOCES award. This is a documentary film about an extraordinary rite of passage in Laredo, Texas where Mexican-American debutantes are presented at a grand Colonial ball dressed as American revolutionaries – part of a border tradition that’s 114 years old.

Elsie Stark

Elsie Stark is a casting director who believes “Diversity is the spice of life.” She is the owner of Stark Naked Productions, which has cast over 7,000 commercials of every conceivable type from on-camera to voice-over; from children to models to dancers to real people on location; from dramatic to wacky comedy. On the youthful end of the market, she has done extensive work for MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, Spike TVand Nickelodeon. Some of her television assignments have been NBC's "Missing Reward”, PAX TV’s “It’s a Miracle”, Lifetime’s “Unsolved Mysteries” and History Channel’s “Breaking Vegas” and Discovery Channel’s “Sensing Murder”. One of her most satisfying projects was the short film “UnSafe” for the non-profit organization, Safe Horizon, dealing with domestic violence. Film credits include NY International Latino Film Festival and ALMA Award winner, “Blue Diner” and she cast Broadway’s “Latinologues” at the Helen Hayes Theater.


Cristina Ibarra

This year through the Tribeca Film Institute she is the first-ever winner of the Heineken VOCES documentary grant award for her project, Las Marthas. Based in New York City, Chicana filmmaker Cristina grew up along the U.S./Mexico border between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico. Her hour-long PBS documentary collaboration, The Last Conquistador, had a national broadcast on POV.  She is also currently developing an independent feature film, Love & Monster Trucks.
