R.I.P. Vanessa Libertad Garcia

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of filmmaker, writer and NALIP member Vanessa Libertad Garcia.

A graduate of Loyola Marymount, she completed a myriad of successful projects in both the film and literary worlds. As of most recently, Garcia directed and co-wrote her feature film debut, Good Mourning Lucille starring Eric Roberts and to be released in January 2014. She also co-produced the music documentary Synthnation (2009) and was the associate producer on the PBS documentary Maid in America (2004). Vanessa was a recipient of a HSF/McNamara Arts grant for her short film A Two Woman One Act.

On the literary front, Garcia's writings have been published by venerated literary staple Lambda Literary and underground art & lit magazine This Great Society. Her first book "The Voting Booth After Dark: Despicable Embarrassing, Repulsive" drew laudable reviews. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and her film/arts community.
