REBEL explores the amazing story of Loreta Velazquez, a Latina who fought disguised as a man in the American Civil War. REBEL aired as a National PBS special, won a 2014 Erik Barnouw Honorable Mention Award as best historical film in America, and is touring the US.

REBEL, written and directed by NALIP Member and Trustee Maria Agui Carter, has won the Gutsy Gal Film Award for Best feature Film/Documentary of the Americas. The award is presented to Films that recognize and promote inspirational female role models and their stories. The award will be presented at the 2015 Berkshire Festival of Women Writers.
