The Institute is comprised of three programs: The CBS Writers Mentoring Program, The Directing Initiative, Talent Showcases, and ongoing Actors and Writers Career Workshops.

CBS Writers Mentoring Program

Description

Each participant is teamed with a mentor, a network executive with whom they meet on a regular basis to discuss their work and career. A series of small networking gatherings with various CBS showrunners are scheduled in order to provide a better understanding of the show-making process and to facilitate relationships.

Support Provided

A structured program of career development, support and personal access to executives and the decision-making process to prepare aspiring writers for later employment opportunities in television.

CBS Directing Initiative

Description 

The program identifies promising directing candidates and matches them with directors of CBS Television Network drama and comedy series. Aspiring directors of diverse backgrounds with a strong desire to direct on a CBS television series are encouraged to apply. You must be 21 or older to be eligible.

Support Provided

A program of exposure to the process of television directing, career development and access to executives and decision making process. No monetary compensation.

Daytime Writers Initiative

Description

The Daytime Writers Initiative will provide qualified diverse writers with mentorship, career development and access to daytime decision makers including network, studio and production company executives as well as the executive producers, head writers and writing staffs of CBS’ Daytime dramas, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and/or THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. The goal is to provide an immersive, educational experience of the writing process of daytime dramas and to foster relationships within the CBS daytime family.

The Daytime Writers Initiative is not employment and there is no monetary compensation. It is instead, a program of personal exposure to the process of daytime drama writing and career development. The goal of the Daytime Writers Initiative is to prepare writers for potential employment opportunities in daytime dramas.

Support Provided

The 12-week Program is divided into two six-week phases: The first six weeks include a characters/story lines immersion process and weekly workshops and the second six weeks is mentor-supervised practice script writing.

Daytime Directing Initiative

Description 

The Daytime Directing Initiative will give participants educational exposure to the process of directing dramatic serials THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and/or THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. This is not employment and participants will not be doing any work for the shows. Participants will be required to be familiar with the shows.The goal is to provide an experiential learning opportunity for talented and diverse candidates with an interest in directing dramatic serials.

Support Provided

In addition to the opportunity to observe the technical aspects of the process, this learning experience allows participants to begin to form relationships with producers and network executives.
