Kathryn F. Galán has been NALIP’s Executive Director for nine years. She has established NALIP as the preeminent national Latino media organization, transforming it from an NCLR special project to a substantial advocacy and professional development organization. Kathryn has overseen 9 national conferences, and created NALIP’s signature programs: the Latino Producers Academy, Latino Writers Lab, Latino Media Market, Latino Media Resource Guide, and “Doing your Doc: Diverse Visions, Regional Voices.” She is responsible for all staffing and day-to-day management, millions in corporate and foundation fundraising, publicity strategies and branding, plus regional programs and chapter development. She has worked as an independent producer (French Kiss, Squanto, and Daybreak) new media consultant, and studio executive. She was head of production for Atlantic Entertainment Group, and a production vice president at Walt Disney Studio’s Hollywood Pictures. Then, she ran Meg Ryan’s Prufrock Pictures, and her own consultancy firm, EKR Strategies. She is a graduate of Amherst College and did initial media studies in video art at SUNY Buffalo, then Masters studies in film history and criticism at UCLA, specializing in World Cinema.

Octavio Marin is NALIP’s Signature Programs Director. He has been responsible for producing all of the organization’s programs including the Latino Producers Academy ™, the Latino Media Resource Guide™, the Latino Writers Lab™, the Latino Media Market™, and the National Conference. Previously, he was unit production manager on the feature film How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer, and a production consultant on America 101. Octavio was also a production associate and production supervisor on the films One Man’s Hero, Texas Rangers, Café Argentina and American Dream. Octavio studied management and film production at UCLA and received his Doctors’ Degree from the University of Mexico City.

     
LUIS DE VEGA   CYNTHIA VARGAS

Programs Coordinator

Luis De Vega is NALIP’s Programs Coordinator. He served as production coordinator for Perfectly Round Productions and as floor director/associate producer for “Algo’s FACTory,” a children’s science program, which aired nationally on UPN affiliates. Luis wrote, produced and directed the short The Naked Eye, which won first place in the music video category at the Kansas Film Festival, and the black and white thriller Nowhere to Dream, which also screened in the Midwest. His past experience includes production coordinator for Key Club Studios and consulting on various projects. He earned a Bachelor of General Studies at Wichita State University.

Cynthia Vargas is NALIP’s national Membership Coordinator. Since 2006, she has been part of the NALIP team including work as research manager for NALIP’s 2008 Latino Media Resource Guide™ and documentary liaison for the 2008 Latino Producers Academy™. She was research associate for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s documentary Viva La Causa. She co-directed the 2007 Boyle Heights Latina Independent Film Extravaganza, and will return as this year’s programming coordinator. Her experience also includes studio management for Slanguage, an artist collective. She earned a B.A. in Women’s Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
     
JENNIFER JAIME   AMANDA HERNANDEZ

Jennifer Jaime is NALIP’s Conference Coordinator. Through the Los Angeles County Arts internship program, she landed employment at NALIP last year as the Latino Producers Academy™ travel coordinator. Previously, she has worked at CASA 0101 theater and volunteered at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Jennifer also volunteered for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, interned at LATV, and was a story analyst for the S.T.A.G.E. Plays International competition. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara in film and media studies.
  Latino Media Market™ Manager

Amanda Hernandez is NALIP’s Latino Media Market™ Manager. A horror genre aficionado, she is currently working on a horror feature screenplay called Sam, and an off-beat romantic comedy entitled Retail Therapy. She has worked as a Unit production manager on several shorts, and was script supervisor on the Garcia Brothers film, Amara. Amanda recently published her first graphic novel, A Man and His Two Sweethearts, and starred in her own theatrical production, Opacity. She was production coordinator at NALIP's 2008 Latino Producers Academy™, and will be graduating with a Radio-TV-Film degree from California State University, Fullerton, this fall.
     
MIGUEL MOUCHESS    
Volunteer Program Coordinator and Transportation Coordinator

Miguel Mouchess is NALIP’s Volunteer Program Coordinator and Transportation Coordinator. For nine years, he has been a royalties accountant in television participations at Twentieth Century Fox Films. Previously, he was at Artisan Entertainment (now Lionsgate Entertainment), in operations accounting. Miguel has collaborated with several volunteer programs for organizations including the Imagen Foundation, Film Independent, and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. His film consulting credits include Real Women Have Curves and El Crimen del Padro Amaro. He has been actively involved with Casa0101 theatre, and currently serves on its Board of Directors.
