Who we are

NALIP Florida is the Florida chapter of NALIP national. We are committed to promote the advancement, development and funding of Latino and Latina film media and arts in all genres.

 

Mission Statement

The NALIP Miami Chapter is dedicated to creating networking opportunities for Latinos/Latinas within the Florida film community. The richly creative and diverse nature of our region enhances our goal of creating opportunities which assist our members in forming career advancing alliances.

The NALIP Miami Chapter also adheres to the following values:

  • Commitment to Latino/Latina media and filmmakers, regardless of the form or content of their work
  • Commitment to respect for diversity based on a code of ethics open to and respectful of differences, including gender, geography, color, class, age, ethnicity, language, sexuality, religion, genre or physical abilities.
  • Commitment to solidarity and accountability, applying our code of ethics to the selection, funding and mentoring process
  • Commitment to raise the question of historical and cultural relevance and awareness of Latinos and Latinas
  • Commitment to solidarity, alliance building and multiple visions of Latina/Latino experiences within the local, national, international and global context.

Her passion for the Hispanic Community in America has inspired her to become an active member of the community by heading the Nalip Florida Chapter since 2002, officially founded on August 16, 2003 by Maritza and a group of Entertainment industry professionals; with the support of the Miami Dade Film Office Director, Mr. Jeff Peel.  Currently directs long range and strategic planning, recently awarded "Best of Florida" PSA for creating and producing the first PSA for NALIP in Miami, FL . Maritza is currently working on the development of her own stories with projects for Feature films on Development: Prince of Peace, I’m Directing and Lucia’s revenge, Co-producing El Robo del Futbol. The Telenovela Alejandra de San Agustin, and also working on her documentary “The history of La Telenovela” as writer, producer and director.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Herta has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Puerto Rico and a M.A. in Industrial (Labor) Relations from the University of Cincinnati. She has worked for AFTRA since 1985. In 2000 Herta held the position of AFTRA National Director of Special Projects coordinating organizing initiatives with immediate priorities related to Spanish Language media and “right to work” areas.  In 2005, she became Executive Director of the Miami Local and South East Regional Director of AFTRA. Herta serves on the Executive Boards of several organizations in Miami: National Asociation of Latino Independant Producers (NALIP); Film, Recording and Entertainment Council (FREC); Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) and League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

Monica Rosales - Writer’s Group Coordinator

Monica Rosales is currently NALIP- Miami’s writer’s group coordinator. Her creative background includes her screenplay, “Revolution”, which made the quarterfinals in the 2000 American Screenwriters Association – Screenwriting from the Soul Script Competition. “Revolution”, is the story of her mother’s turbulent life in Cuba. In regard to her project she said, “This project opened my heart and eyes to the Cuban exile struggle and he abundant need to remind future generations of what occurred and ontinues to affect my parent’s homeland.” Monica is currently a Social Studies Teacher with an Associate in Arts Degree in Secondary Education from Miami-Dade Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies Education from Florida International University. She is also the creator of www.filmindustrydepot.com a website dedicated to showcasing the websites of companies and individuals within the film industry. Her website offers the opportunity of exposure while at the same time providing an atmosphere for networking as well.

Jesus “Chuchi”Rivero is Owner, Director, and Director of Photography of Moonwater Pictures and Agualuna Films of Panama, both internationally known High Definition Production Companies. His contributions and development to the video and film industry within Miami, as well as in Latin America and other parts of the world havemade him an advocate for the development of Digital Cinematography.  With over 24 years of experience in the broadcast and professional film and television industry. Prior to his entrepreneurship of setting up his production companies, he had the responsibility to architect and develop new business opportunities for Sony Broadcast and Professional Latin America by promoting a mixer of technology and cinematic professionalism into the market.
