New York International Latino Film Festival, July 22-27
The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF), presented by HBO, returns for its Ninth Annual Edition from July 22-27 and is proud to announce its biggest line-up yet with over 100 national and international films, documentaries and shorts. NYILFF also boasts more premieres than ever before including Opening Night’s AMERICAN SON, directed by Neil Abramson and starring Nick Cannon, Melonie Diaz and Jay Hernandez, and Closing Night’s THE MINISTERS, directed by Franc. Reyes and starring John Leguizamo and Harvey Keitel. Other talent represented in this year’s NYILFF include Daddy Yankee, Laurence Fishburne, Taye Diggs, Rosie Perez, Wilmer Valderrama, Snoop Dogg, Method Man, Tyson Beckford, skateboarding star Paul Rodriguez, Jr., Jesse Garcia, Emily Rios and David Banner, many of whom are confirmed to attend.
“We are delighted to be back for a ninth year with the most films and premieres we’ve ever had,” said NYILFF executive director Calixto Chinchilla. “Also, the large number of celebrities attending this year’s festival attests to the strides made by Latinos in the film industry, both inside and out of Hollywood; we hope to continue providing a platform for Hispanic film talent in front of and behind the camera.”
The NYILFF is not only showcasing national and international feature films, documentaries, and shorts. The festival will also hold industry panels on such topics as film distribution and financing and special events such as the Hola Mexico Film Festival (www.holamexicoff.com), which demonstrate the festival’s dedication to providing a wide milieu of culturally relevant programming. The six-day schedule of film, music, outdoor screenings and cultural events highlights the full range of Latino culture, targeting different segments of the community.

Call for Entries: The Icaro Festival
The Icaro Festival had established itself as the most important audiovisual festival in Central America and its an important stimulation for audiovisual production in the region.
From November 13rd to the 20th, 2008 the Icaro Festival will take place for the 11th time. The festival has established itself as the only Central American film festival with growing attendance, and an important place of encounter among Central American film makers. The festival has also achieved international attention, and a large number of film makers from various countries show increasing interest to have their productions showed at the Icaro Festival.
Its call for submissions is open until July 30th, 2008.

Mexican Classic Los Paquetes De Paquita Screening July 17 in LA
TuTv, a Grupo Televisa and Univision Communications Inc. joint venture, proudly presents “Noches De Película” (Classic Movie Nights), a movie screening event designed to offer the Latino community a classic film from the Golden Era of Mexican cinema in a classic theater setting, closing with an on stage Q&A with the original talent from the film. The event which is the first of its kind brings Broadway back to the Latino community of downtown Los Angeles and surrounding areas is dedicated to the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and will be held at one of L.A.'s most venerable landmarks The Orpheum Theatre on July 17th at 6 p.m.
The screening will feature “Los Paquetes De Paquita” and a Q&A with the renowned Maria Victoria. The movie is part of TuTv’s De Película and De Película Clásico Spanish-language network movie library. “Los Paquetes De Paquita” (1954) is a about a sassy, smart, attractive and witty housekeeper who gets a job as a companion for a lonely newly wed young lady.
The star character “Paquita” is played by Maria Victoria Cervantes who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1927. Maria Victoria is one of the few surviving stars from the Golden Age and has shared the screen with the most recognizable names in the Mexican film industry. She is a legendary Mexican actress and singer best known for her role in the critically acclaimed and longest running novela (14 years) “La criada bien criada." She has had a luminous career appearing in more than 41 films, 14 television novelas and 100 recorded albums since 1950. She is a celebrity and icon, beloved by Mexican and Latin American film and television audiences for over six decades.
This event is produced by TuTv, a Univision-Televisa company that distributes five cable nets in the U.S. and the movie channels De Película and De Película Clásico. TuTv delivers five of the most popular television signals in the Spanish-speaking world to U.S cable and satellite operators.
