The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) has announced this summer's concert and showcase lineup. Among the highlights are a free Central Park Summer Stage concert on Saturday, July 12th featuring Mexican rock songstress Julieta Venegas, Mexican electro-rockers Plastilina Mosh and Chilean buzz DJ Bitman. LAMC's annual concert at Celebrate Brooklyn will take place the evening of Friday, July 11th in Prospect Park, and this year's lineup will feature Argentine electro-pop band Miranda!, New York City's own melting pop band Brazilian Girls and dub master Ticklah (Easy Star All-Stars + Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra). Additional LAMC events include an Experimental Film Night in Brooklyn, Music and Film Night @ Central Park SummerStage, Indie Showcase @ The Mercury Lounge, Terra showcase @ Bowery Ballroom, Cyloop/Gibson Acoustic Showcase @ SOB's, and the Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash Closing Party.

With a warm welcome from the Big Apple, the biggest event in the world for cutting-edge Latin music will return to the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City from July 8th - 12th. Featuring leading artists as well as many of the music industry's most prominent decision-makers, the ninth annual LAMC is a "must play" event for developing and established acts alike.

With past conferences averaging more than 1,250 music industry attendees and 25,000 concert fans each year, LAMC 2008 promises to be an exciting year yet again. This multi-day conference provides networking opportunities with the genre's leading artists, label executives, journalists, marketers, managers, retailers and programmers. It is the most extensive Latin music conference to date.
LAMC will be returning for its second year in Mexico City and Buenos Aires on September 5th and September 22th-24th, respectively.

LA Press Club and the Media Image Coalition present “May Day Melee: One Year Later”
Noted media professionals look back on last year’s May Day immigration rally, and reforms instituted by the Los Angeles Police Department, and discuss its impact on reporting immigration issues within the community; how we can prevent another one from happening; and the coverage of Latinos and immigration issues in news and entertainment.
“As emotionally disturbing as the events of May 1, 2007 were, it is vitally important that we examine how those images impact the continuing coverage and portrayal of Latinos in the media,” said Ray Bradford, president of the Media Image Coalition (and AFTRA’s National Director for Equal Employment Opportunities).

 Finding & Developing New Ideas - Free Writers Store Seminar
Edwards and Skerbelis present "Finding New Ideas." This free seminar will offer an introductory overall view of finding ideas and developing them into cohesive stories. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A with Edwards & Skerbelis.
In order to have success at finding and developing your ideas, you need to know how to look for them and then how to structure them on paper. This course will provide valuable tips and resources to help you organize and develop your ideas and get them out of your head and on paper. Knowing how to do this will also help writers, producers and filmmakers alike have a place from which to pitch their ideas and/or jump to the next step: writing the screenplay.

About the Instructors:
A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, Rona Edwards was Vice President of Creative Affairs for Emmy-winning actor, John Larroquette, Emmy-winning producer, Fern Field and Oscar-winning producer, Michael Phillips. With seven movies to her credit, including Out of Sync (VH1) and The Companion (USA/SciFi), she recently set-up up a feature Matchmakers at Warner Bros. as well as the movie Blind Trust which aired in 2007 on Lifetime Television.
Monika Skerbelis
has fifteen years of studio executive experience working in the story department at Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox and running the story department at Universal Pictures. She is the Artistic and Programming Director for the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival. She is a producer with Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE).
 Music, Food and Fun in June at California's 'Mexican Disneyland'
Singer Rogelio Martinez will headline a June 8 day of Mexican music, food and fun at Rancho Bonilla in New Cuyama, California.
Rancho Bonilla, in rural Santa Barbara county, is the 'Mexican Disneyland' featured in NALIP member Kevin Bender's new documentary Thinking Grande! Creating California's Mexican Wonderland.
The film depicts the twenty-year effort of Jose Luis Bonilla, immigrant from Zacatecas, to build his 'little piece of Mexico,' a stunning, idealized re-creation of a typical Mexican village. Rancho Bonilla once rocked to the sounds of Vicente Fernandez and Juan Gabriel, but that was before Bonilla abandoned his efforts several years ago in the face of permit problems and bureaucracy. Son David Bonilla has taken over the reins and is promoting the June concert which also features La Original Banda Limon.
The Bonillas plan this to be the first step in the rebirth of Rancho Bonilla as a public center for Mexican Arts and Culture.
