 2 Paid Summer Internships at NALIP
What: NALIP seeks 2 energetic and reliable college-level students interested in working at the NALIP office in Santa Monica this summer. Two positions available: one in the membership office in non-profit arts management; another with our Signature program Latino Producers Academy. Minorities highly encouraged to apply!!
Positions include:
- LPA Assistant Coordinator- participates in all aspects of the preparation and execution of our 20-day Latino filmmaker development program. This includes processing the applicants, admitting Latino/a documentary and feature Fellows, preparing and then producing the Latino Producers Academy progrma, with top industry mentors for select film & documentary works-in-progress.
- Membership Office Intern- assists membership Office for Latino/a media organization including eNewsletter, member services, office management, phone and correspondence, database management and special project support, including community outreach at Los Angeles Film Festival and 12-day latino Producers Academy for feature and documentary makers in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Who: Student eligibility for internship positions is limited to currently enrolled
undergraduates who reside in and/or attend college in Los Angeles County, will have completed at least one semester of college by June, and will not graduate before December 2008.  Disney•ABC Talent Development & Diversity Seeking Diverse Writer's Assistant Candidates
We are now accepting resumes for diverse writer's assistant candidates. This program was created in answer to various ABC, ABC Family and Disney Channel Executive Producers' desire to increase the diversity of their writing staffs. Disney•ABC Talent Development & Diversity will provide productions hiring diverse writer's assistants up to nine months of salary reimbursement for the candidate. Past candidates have been staffed on Disney•ABC Television Group series such as: "Men in Trees," "Lincoln Heights" and "Kyle XY."
Ideal candidates should have a passion for television, and interest in writing for the medium, and though it is not required, it is helpful if candidates have had exporuse to the television production process. Upon receipt of resumes, qualified candidates will be entered into a database. Should writer's assistant positions become available, Disney•ABC Talent Development and Diversity will submit potential candidates to inquiring showrunners.

 FX Network Mini-Pilot Competition
FX Network (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, The Shield) is looking for their next hit comedy and YOU have the opportunity to create it for them! Submission deadline is May 1st.
Make a 3 minute comedy film – think a mini-pilot – that is a sample of the show you would like to make. It should introduce the premise and the main characters. Along with that, you need to upload a 1-2 page brief which outlines the plot of future episodes, the main characters, and the themes.

Be sure to check out FX's current comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to get a feel for the network's sensibility. They are looking for a show in a similar irreverent, over-the-top vein. Scripted, unscripted or animated shows are all acceptable. FX is NOT looking for dramedy, but an all-out half-hour comedy. They want fun and provocative, but they also want smart and clever. They want a show whose primary appeal is to young adults 18-34, but not to the exclusion of adults in older demographics.

From the competition submissions, ten semi-finalists will revise their shorts based on notes from FX and receive $1,000. The Network expects noticeable differences in response to their notes, so shoot in a manner which will allow flexibility. Be sure to get sufficient coverage of your characters (angles and takes). It may be helpful to shoot more than the minimum you expect to use in your final cut. Unlike previous Filmaka contests, winning this competition will involve interactivity and development with Filmaka and FX. You may even be asked to do reshoots, so try to use actors and locations that you may be able to use again a few weeks later.
After the shorts are revised, one winner will be chosen to receive a budget of up to $40,000 to create a 15- to 20-minute presentation. FX will then decide, based on that presentation, if they want to produce a full-length pilot and possibly order the series for production. If they do, FX will, subject to good faith negotiation, enter into an agreement with the Competition Winner with respect to production services for the series.

 Call for Applications: PLIE Film Discovery Program
Professional Latinos In Entertainment (PLIE), a non-profit organization, is calling out to up and coming Film Directors to be part of the Film Discovery Program. The PLIE Film Discovery Program is an extensive directing workshop that gives a diverse filmmaker the tools to create and direct a professional 3 minute piece or 30 second commercial. The workshop not only provides the means to exercise their talent and learn new skills in directing but also an opportunity to create a professional sample of their work that is so essential to their own success as a director but often difficult to accomplish on their own.
The Professional Latino’s In Entertainment has already given out two awards to two filmmakers; Shawna Baca, who was the 2008 recipient of The Emerging New Media Director Award. Shawna Baca was given the resources to produce and direct a 30 second commercial spec for Anheuser- Busch. The second award went to Claudia Duran, who was the 2008 recipient of the Emerging Film Director Award. Claudia is currently shooting her short “Journey To The Egg,” a live- action piece featuring real actors, illustrating their daily lives, and their ever so epic journey to life itself. The story follows one little sperm with one giant endeavor - to be born.

 Lowriding in Aztlan Screening and Event (San Jose)
I am very proud to announce that “Lowriding in Aztlan” will be screening at the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Thursday, May 1st, 6pm-10pm. It will be a part of the “Old School / New School” event that will take place on the same day.
The “Old School” portion of the event will highlight the rich history of lowriding through a Q & A panel of those lowriders highlighted in the current lowrider art exhibit that is on display at the plaza. The “New School” portion will be a screening of the film “Lowriding in Aztlan” followed by a Q & A with some of the films cast:
