FX Network Mini-Pilot Competition
FX Network (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, The Shield) is looking for their next hit comedy and YOU have the opportunity to create it for them! Submission deadline is May 1st.
Make a 3 minute comedy film – think a mini-pilot – that is a sample of the show you would like to make. It should introduce the premise and the main characters. Along with that, you need to upload a 1-2 page brief which outlines the plot of future episodes, the main characters, and the themes.
Priority consideration for INFOLIST.com submissions – details are below!
Be sure to check out FX's current comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to get a feel for the network's sensibility. They are looking for a show in a similar irreverent, over-the-top vein. Scripted, unscripted or animated shows are all acceptable. FX is NOT looking for dramedy, but an all-out half-hour comedy. They want fun and provocative, but they also want smart and clever. They want a show whose primary appeal is to young adults 18-34, but not to the exclusion of adults in older demographics.
More information and clips of the show can be found at:
www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/sunny/
www.hulu.com/its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia
From the competition submissions, ten semi-finalists will revise their shorts based on notes from FX and receive $1,000. The Network expects noticeable differences in response to their notes, so shoot in a manner which will allow flexibility. Be sure to get sufficient coverage of your characters (angles and takes). It may be helpful to shoot more than the minimum you expect to use in your final cut. Unlike previous Filmaka contests, winning this competition will involve interactivity and development with Filmaka and FX. You may even be asked to do reshoots, so try to use actors and locations that you may be able to use again a few weeks later.
After the shorts are revised, one winner will be chosen to receive a budget of up to $40,000 to create a 15- to 20-minute presentation. FX will then decide, based on that presentation, if they want to produce a full-length pilot and possibly order the series for production. If they do, FX will, subject to good faith negotiation, enter into an agreement with the Competition Winner with respect to production services for the series.
TO SUBMIT:
1. Go to www.Filmaka.com and click on FX Competition for submission requirements and guidelines, and submit your film as instructed there.
2. INFOLIST.com submissions will be given priority consideration by sending an email as described below:
AFTER you have submitted your film per the guidelines on the FX website, use the email link below to notify Filmaka that you heard about this from Jeff Gund at INFOLIST.com and you will receive priority consideration (do NOT submit your film or other materials to this email, however - just your name, film title, and that I referred you). Send your email to:
filmmaka@gmail.com
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MAY 1, 2008:
Filmaka will begin accepting uploads for this competition on Monday, April 21. The deadline for submitting your film and written brief is midnight on May 1, 2008. Be sure your film file is less than 500MB and your pitch is in a PDF document (if you need a free PDF converter, try www.primopdf.com). All submission details are on the www.Filmaka.com website as described above.
Call for Applications: PLIE Film Discovery Program
Professional Latinos In Entertainment (PLIE), a non-profit organization, is calling out to up and coming Film Directors to be part of the Film Discovery Program. The PLIE Film Discovery Program is an extensive directing workshop that gives a diverse filmmaker the tools to create and direct a professional 3 minute piece or 30 second commercial. The workshop not only provides the means to exercise their talent and learn new skills in directing but also an opportunity to create a professional sample of their work that is so essential to their own success as a director but often difficult to accomplish on their own.
The Professional Latino’s In Entertainment has already given out two awards to two filmmakers; Shawna Baca, who was the 2008 recipient of The Emerging New Media Director Award. Shawna Baca was given the resources to produce and direct a 30 second commercial spec for Anheuser- Busch. The second award went to Claudia Duran, who was the 2008 recipient of the Emerging Film Director Award. Claudia is currently shooting her short “Journey To The Egg,” a live- action piece featuring real actors, illustrating their daily lives, and their ever so epic journey to life itself. The story follows one little sperm with one giant endeavor - to be born.
Directors wishing to apply for the Professional Latino’s In Entertainment Film Discovery Program can log on to the website at www.prolatinos.org and apply on line, that process is free.

Lowriding in Aztlan Screening and Event (San Jose)
I am very proud to announce that “Lowriding in Aztlan” will be screening at the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Thursday, May 1st, 6pm-10pm. It will be a part of the “Old School / New School” event that will take place on the same day.
The “Old School” portion of the event will highlight the rich history of lowriding through a Q & A panel of those lowriders highlighted in the current lowrider art exhibit that is on display at the plaza. The “New School” portion will be a screening of the film “Lowriding in Aztlan” followed by a Q & A with some of the films cast:
Kita Lealao, Founder, UCE CC
Robby Quisol, Founder, Impalas CC
Freddy Alfaro, internationally renound lowrider artist, Alfaro Designs
Jimmy Gustamantes, Founder, Viejitos CC, Silicon Valley Chapter
This film will be the first lowrider film to screen at such a large venue in the East Side of San Jose since Boulevard Nights was shown, nearly 30 years ago!
The East Side as well as lowriding community has long awaited a lowriding event such as this one. And although we have achieved great national success with our film, it has finally come home to screen where it was originally meant to be screened, in East San Jose at the MexicanHeritage Plaza.
Tickets will sell out fast, so get yours while you can! Here's the info:
Tickets for “Old School / New School”: $15 adults; $10 students, seniors, children. Call (408) 928-5563 for tickets or more information.

Mexican Heritage Plaza’s gallery exhibition on lowriders – Mi Coche, My Culture, Livin’ the Lowrider Lifestyle – will also be open from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm on May 1st.
