What: NALIP seeks 2 energetic and reliable college-level students interested in working at the NALIP office in Santa Monica this summer. Two positions available: one in the membership office in non-profit arts management; another with our Signature program Latino Producers Academy. Minorities highly encouraged to apply!!
Positions include:
- LPA Assistant Coordinator- participates in all aspects of the preparation and execution of our 20-day Latino filmmaker development program. This includes processing the applicants, admitting Latino/a documentary and feature Fellows, preparing and then producing the Latino Producers Academy progrma, with top industry mentors for select film & documentary works-in-progress.
- Membership Office Intern- assists membership Office for Latino/a media organization including eNewsletter, member services, office management, phone and correspondence, database management and special project support, including community outreach at Los Angeles Film Festival and 12-day latino Producers Academy for feature and documentary makers in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Who: Student eligibility for internship positions is limited to currently enrolled
undergraduates who reside in and/or attend college in Los Angeles County, will have completed at least one semester of college by June, and will not graduate before December 2008.  30th Annual CineFestival Announces Star-Studded Lineup
CineFestival en San Antonio, the nation’s longest running Latino film festival will celebrate its star-studded 30th anniversary from April 10-13 at the historic Guadalupe Theater. The theme for this year’s festival, which includes two Sundance award-winners, two world premieres and more than fifty cutting edge features, shorts and documentaries from around the world, is “Digital Revolutionaries: Celebrating 30 Years of Chicano Film and Video.”
 The four-day extravaganza kicks off on Thursday, April 10 with the Texas premiere of the celebrated Sundance award winner Sleep Dealer by founding NALIP member Alex Rivera. The film, which stars Leonor Varela (Voces inocentes), Jacob Vargas (Selena) and Luis Fernando Peña (Amar te duele), is a Sci-Fi mix of El Norte and Blade Runner that portrays a not too distant future where sleep is a commodity few can afford. The film’s director Alex Rivera will be present for the screening at the Guadalupe Theater on April 10th.
This year’s CineFestival is also proud to host the Texas premiere of Searchers 2.0, the new film by Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid and Nancy). Searchers 2.0, which stars Del Zamora (Repo Man) and Ed Pansullo (Straight to Hell) is a comedic road trip through the Southwest that follows two out of work actors on a quest to Monument Valley to seek revenge on a screenwriter who did them wrong on the set of a Western.
The 2008 CineFestival lineup also includes Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Padre Nuestro, starring Jesus Ochoa (Nicotina) and Eugenio Derbez (Derbez en cuando, La misma luna). The Ariel Award winning film El Violin, a powerful Mexican drama about an elderly violin player who must save his small village from occupation by brutal soldiers, will also be screened.
On Saturday, April 12, CineFestival will present the FIlm San Antonio / San Antonio Film Commission Centerpiece screening of Propiedad Ajena (Ludwika Paleta, Plutarco Haza), a riveting tale of history, Texas Independence and family secrets, which was shot in San Antonio last year. Two other feature films shot in San Antonio will also have their world premieres at this year’s festival, including The Bookie by local favorites Mickey and Gibby Cevallos (Barbacoa, The Brothers Garcia) and Barrio Tales: Tops, Kites and Marbles, a delightful new family film by Efrain Gutierrez, the father of Chicano cinema. The directors and casts for all three films will be present at CineFestival and are available for radio, print and broadcast interviews.
This year’s CineFestival includes workshops, student showcases, senior screenings, demonstrations and several family films, including the animated Mexican feature La leyenda de la Nahuala (starring the voices of Ophelia Medina, Jesus Ochoa and Manuel “El Loco” Valdez). Two red carpet gala celebrations will enable the public to meet and mingle with stars and directors throughout the festival.
Tickets to screenings are $8 general and $6 for students, seniors and GCAC members. A four-day festival pass, which includes entry to all the films and the gala celebrations, is available for $40 general and $30 for students, seniors and GCAC members. CineFestival is also offering a special “Five Tickets for $25” pack for families, friends and film buffs.  Call for Applications: ABC/ABC Studios Production Associates Program
This is a 12-month paid program, during which individuals from diverse backgrounds are placed in entry-level positions in the production areas of ABC Studios in Burbank, California.
Production Associates will be assigned to five main groups of Primetime Network television production: Production Management, Production Finance, Post-Production Management, Studio Crafts Management, and Business Affairs/Legal Affairs. Entry-level work within these groups involves basic clerical and administrative responsibilities and duties, such as assisting executives, preparing and photocopying documents, handling distribution of reports throughout the organization, answering and routing telephone calls and written communication, and carrying out pick-ups and deliveries.
After a screening and review process, the program administrator and department heads of each group select the candidates they feel will be best suited to successfully handle the responsibilities of the positions. The term of employment is for a one-year period.
Applications will be accepted only between April 1, 2008 and April 16, 2008. Do not submit materials other than those required with the application; no other materials (written or otherwise) will be considered. Interviews will be scheduled for May 15 and May 16, 2008. Job assignments are expected to begin on July 7, 2008.

HBO/NYILFF 2008 SHORT FILM COMPETITION
HBO has teamed with THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL (NYILFF) to find the next hot Latino Filmmaker. The HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition is an opportunity for one talented filmmaker to receive $15,000 in funding to produce and direct on digital video (DV) an original short film narrative. The final film produced from the winning screenplay will be presented on screen this summer during the 2008 New York International Latino Film Festival.

New York international Latino film festival
NYILFF will consider films made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community. The festival will consider all forms: feature narrative, short films, documentary and experimental shorts. All projects must have been completed by no earlier than 2006. Projects in a language other English must have English subtitles. Films cannot have been broadcast (television or Internet) or distributed commercially in the U.S. prior to the festival. Exceptions are made for short films and documentaries. All genres are welcome.
