Nava & Perez Win SiTV Producers Grant at 2008 Latino Media Market
“The Biggest Loser” meets “Dancing with The Stars.” That is how filmmakers Cristina Nava and Patrick Perez pitched their new show idea “Dance It Off” to SiTV execs at the Latino Media Market™ during NALIP’s National Conference 9. SiTV was looking for fresh entertainment concepts with a strong original hook! And they found something unique, creative, and different in “Dance It Off.” In this unique non-scripted program to be developed for SiTV, 10 overweight contestants will dance their way to fitness. Along the way they have the chance to cash in their pounds for dollars. Strategy is important because the winners get to choose their dance partner for the following week. “Dance It Off” is a timely and exciting addition to the reality competition genre.
SiTV VP of Programming Eyal Shemtov sees “Dance It Off” as a strong show, “It combines identifiable elements of Latino culture within the show.” “Dance It Off” also combines two successful ideas of the reality genre, dancing and weight loss, and they are complimenting each other very well in the show. SiTV wants filmmakers and TV producers to think about ideas that are marketable to all markets, shows that embrace both Latino content and universal ideas.
SiTV targets young mainstream Latinos in a variety of platforms (TV, web, mobile). SiTV sees itself as lifestyle network and they are constantly on the lookout for reality programming (comedic, competitive, or just plain interesting personalities), talk shows, games, sports, and unique music programming. SiTV awarded Cristina Nava and Patrick Perez a $2,000 grant plus a development option for their concept pitched at the 2008 Latino Media Market™.
