NATPE Discount Offer for NALIP Members
NATPE '08 is just around the corner and once again, the premiere media content conference and market will offer NALIP members the same discount it offers NATPE members for a substantial savings on regisration fees. As a result, NATPE 2008 registration rates could be as much as a 25% discount off non-member rates depending on the time frame for when they purchase their registrations. The early bird registration rate closes on December 14 and NALIP members who act now will only pay $650 (NATPE Member rate) instead of $900 (Non-member rate). The rate goes up to $770 for Members after that date vs. $1025 for non members.
NALIP Members who wish to take advantage of the online discount NATPE registration dicount offer should contact the NALIP Membership office at 310-395-8880 to request the discount code. Members may also request the code with an email addressed to membership@nalip.org.
Call for Entries: New York International Latino Film Festival
Approaching nine years of celebrating Latino cinematic excellence, the New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) announces its open call for 2008 applicant entries for film submissions in all genres. The deadline is Friday, March 14, 2008.
Deadlines to submit U.S. and international films for the 2008 NYILFF are:

* April 11, 2008 - LATE DEADLINE
Showcasing films that present a cross-section of the diverse Latino culture to an audience of over 20,000 film fans and industry executives from throughout the U.S., the NYILFF is now the premiere marketplace for Latino film.
The NYILFF will consider films from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community. It also will consider all forms: feature narrative, short films, documentary and experimental shorts. All projects must have been completed by no earlier than 2006. Projects in a language other English must have English subtitles. Films cannot have been broadcast (television or Internet) or distributed commercially in the U.S. prior to the festival. Exceptions are made for short films and documentaries. All genres are welcome.

El Cantante, Bella, Favela Rising, Quinceañera, Rikers High, Imagining Argentina, Girlfight, Raising Victor Vargas, Empire, Crazy/Beautiful, Nicotina, A Day Without a Mexican, Undefeated, Manito, Washington Heights, Rhythm of The Saints...to name a few.

Call for Entries: World Hunger Year's Harry Chapin Media Awards
Deadline: February 1, 2008
A program of World Hunger Year (www.worldhungeryear.org), the Harry Chapin Media Awards, formerly the World Hunger Media Awards, were created to encourage the media to "tell the story of hunger and poverty." The awards honor print and electronic media for outstanding coverage that positively impacts hunger, poverty, and self-reliance. The awards also honor work that focuses on the causes of hunger and poverty and the forces creating self- reliance.
The awards are cash prizes of $1,000 to $2,500 each, and cover six media categories: Newspaper; Periodical (magazine or e-zine); TV/Film; Radio; Photojournalism; and Books.
Entries for the 2007 awards must have appeared in the media be- tween January 1 and December 31, 2007. International entries must be submitted in English. Unpublished manuscripts or photographs are not eligible. Television, film, and radio must have been broadcast.

LALIFF Fundraising Auction Online

Film and TV stars and artists participate in a special fundraising auction to benefit the Latino International Film Institute (LIFI) and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), non-profit organizations who promote the development and exhibition of independent and diverse films by Latino filmmakers from around the world. The auction will offer cast signed scripts of TV hits such as "Ugly Betty," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Scrubs," as well as a signed copy of Oscar winner Pedro Almodovar's screenplay Volver and a signed poster of Antonio Bandera's blockbuster film Shrek 3. The charity auction will also offer an original autograph photograph by Korda of his most famous subject - Che Guevara.
