Save the Date: NALIP Conference 9 - March 2008
NALIP's ninth Conference, SIN LIMITES: Trends in Pan-Latino Cinema will be held March 7 – 9, 2008 at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, California.
The Conference will look at the remarkable growth in cross-boundary, cross-cultural creations that have developed in the Latino media landscape. The program will highlight case-studies and showcases of talent, while including workshops and seminars, keynotes and our 2008 Estela Awards.
This year’s conference co-chairs are producer Frida Torresblanco (Pan's Labyrinth) and playwright Elaine Romero (Secret Things). The Conference 9 website, with full program and registration information will be available online starting December 1, 2007.
Teen Producers Project Celebration and Fundraiser (SD)
Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) will be hosting its 6th Anniversary Teen Producers Project Celebration and Student Scholarship Fundraiser on Friday, December 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diegos new Downtown location 1100 Kettner Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101
The event will include the premiere screening of two locally-produced Teen Producer Project documentaries from the past year. The documentaries to be premiered are; I Want My Parents Back, which is part of the ongoing City Stories project. In I Want My Parents Back a group of San Diego teens explore the issue of immigration and the effects of recent ICE raids on the community and specifically, the Munoz family.
The event will also be the premiere of The A-G Requirements: Your Pathways to Californias Colleges and Universities, a collaborative project with San Diego County Office of Education (LRET Division) and Migrant Education (Region IX). The A-G Requirements: Your Pathways to Californias Colleges and Universities focuses the issue education, and Teen Producers explain the requirements needed to continue education after high school by telling the story of a successful student, Stephanie Aguilar, and the sacrifices her family has made in order for her to pursue a higher education.
In addition to the film screening, there will be music, a silent auction, photo opportunities with Teen Producers Project students, parents, instructors, sponsors and community partners. Guests will be served an array of hors douevres and cocktails. Former and present Teen Producers Project students will be honored, and a new Teen Producers Project scholarship recipient will be announced. All donations will benefit future Teen Producers Project programs and youth scholarship funds, including the Greg Muskewitz Fund.
Suggested Donations: $50 for Guests; $500 for Patrons; and $1000 for Corporate Sponsors (includes table and promotional opportunities).
