SARAH DURAN AMONG WINNERS OF WIF/GM 2007 EMERGING LATINA FILMMAKERS GRANT

The national alliance organization of Women In Film (WIF) and the General Motors Corporation (GM) announced today five winners of the second annual WIF/GM 2007 Opening Doors/Abriendo Puertas: The Acceleration Grant for Emerging Latina Filmmakers . Among them is our very own NALIP LPA Fellow and Mercury Latino Lens Competition winner Sarah Duran!

The grant is a project of the WIF/GM Alliance , the goal of which is to support talented filmmakers from Latina/Hispanic communities and other under-represented groups. The WIF/GM grant is presented to five up-and-coming Latina filmmakers, chosen through an application process overseen by a WIF selection committee comprised of professional filmmakers and entertainment industry executives from the New York-based chapter of WIF, New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT).

The grant will provide Sarah with a broad-based understanding of the business of filmmaking through a six-day, full-immersion mentoring program, shepherded by members of NYWIFT, which includes some of the industry’s most successful female talent.

3RD ANNUAL LONG ISLAND LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (NY)

Welcome to our 3rd Annual Long Island Latino International Film Festival. Opening night will begin with a reception, the viewing of two awesome films to celebrate the start of the festival. On Friday, September 28th, we will host the screening of and a Mexican comedy love story . Saturday will be Dominican Night , and on Sunday we will have a the Mezcla Short Film Competition and Awards ceremony. NUMB ROBOT ANIMATION STUDIOS LAUNCHES

Award Winning, Latino Owned Visual Effects company Numb Robot ( http://www.numbrobot.com ) launches a state of the art animation studio. Founder and CEO Alex Ferrari (a NALIP LPA Fellow and Mentor) explains his reasons for expanding his visual effects company, "We have recently opened an animation studio to handle the growing need for high quality 2D and 3D animation. There aren't many 2D animation studios in the United States so we wanted to throw our hat in the ring. Our aim is to created memorable brands that will last for many years to come."

Coming from Numb Robot Animation Studios in 2007, Red Princess Blues Animated: The Book of Violence is an animated short film prequel to creator Alex Ferrari’s upcoming feature film Red Princess Blues. The film will be produced in classic Japanesse Anime style. Artist extraordinaire and Creative Director of Numb Robot, Dan Cregan will be making his directorial debut. RPB Animated is a chance to explore the world of “Princess,” the main character of Red Princess Blues. Lending her voice to the main character is the lovely Paula Garces (The Shield, Harold and Kumar, Man of the House).

In this tale we meet her as a 12 year old little girl who finds herself in a strange country looking for her father. She is then taken in by a “unique” looking man who goes by Nino. The short film is completely from the perspective of Princess and what she is going through. She soon discovers the “Book of Violence” and slowly begins her journey that one day will lead to vengeance. The live action feature film is currently in pre-production.

WEINSTEINS GET "DEAD"

Sep. 12, 2007 - (indieWIRE) - The Weinstein Company has closed a deal for North American rights, including Mexico, to "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead." Cinetic Media brokered the deal, which closed tonight (Tuesday) at the Toronto International Film Festival. Described by the festival as "his first independently produced zombie film in over two decades," the movie was produced by Artfire Films and Romero-Grunwald Productions. FULL STORY HERE
