Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB), a non-profit organization funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, announced the appointment of Patricia Boero as LPB’s new Executive Director. Boero brings decades of high-level expertise in the intersecting fields of philanthropy, filmmaking and socially responsible business. She was Director of the Sundance Institute’s International Program, and Senior Program Officer at the MacArthur Foundation where she managed media programs, including funding for major public radio and television series. She directed Hispanics in Philanthropy’s Transnational Program, and was Senior Manager for Global Public Affairs at the Levi Strauss Foundation. She studied film in Sydney, Australia, where she directed documentaries for Film Australia and the public TV station SBS. She has been a correspondent for the BBC’s World Service and field producer for CNN. She was a founding member of LPB’s Board of Directors, 1998-2006.
Boero takes the reins from Luca Bentivoglio, LPB’s previous Executive Director. Patricia joins LPB on September 4, 2007.
Luis Ortiz, who has been overseeing LPB’s activities in the interim, has been promoted to Managing Director.
Edward James Olmos, Chair of the Latino Public Broadcasting Board of Directors, remarked:
“Patricia has a demonstrated ability to lead media organizations and projects. Her rapport with filmmakers and her proven commitment to advancing greater Latino participation in media have defined her leadership style, focused on collaboration and innovation. It will help bring LPB to a new level, given Latinos’ growing presence and influence in the U.S.”
“I am honored to have been selected for this job, and I look forward to working with the LPB team and the many talented filmmakers in our community to continue advancing LPB’s mission of bringing the voices, vision and stories of Latinos and Latinas to public media,” said Patricia Boero.
