ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: NBPC'S NEW MEDIA INSTITUTE

This year's New Media Institute (NMI) is a professional development residency to train emerging and seasoned filmmakers in the latest digital technologies for creating innovative projects, distribution as well as building audiences.

The NMI is a 6-week virtual workshop series followed by a week-long onsite residency held in Jackson, Mississippi from November 11th to November 17th. The training will focus on the creation of original new media content about the rich culture and history of the Delta region and the impact of Blues music in America. The projects created will be distributed in a variety of ways including an exhibition in a major Blues museum.

We welcome those filmmakers looking to transform their existing broadcast programs to a multi-media environment and those interested in creating original pieces for PBS.org. Twenty-five (25) media-makers will be selected.

LOS ANGELES LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

We are pleased to invite you to become part of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) 2007, the premier Latino international film festival in the United States that for the last ten years presenting to our Southern California community the best of Latino films made in the United States, Spain, the Caribbean, and Latin America. This year we celebrate our 11th anniversary on October 7 – 14, 2007 at the Arclight Cinemas and surrounding area in Hollywood.

We will need volunteer support from August 20th to November 1st. This is a great opportunity for those who are looking for experience in the industry while supporting our community.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: SENORITA CINEMA

La Chicana Laundry Pictures in Association with Lawndale Art Center presents The Lone Star State's very first ALL LATINA Film Festival SENORITA CINEMA We are seeking films and videos by Latina Filmmakers and Video Artists for an exclusive exhibition at Houston’s Premiere venue for cutting edge art The Lawndale Art Center. This is a juried show with awards going to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Senorita Cinema will be a part of Lawndale’s month long acclaimed Dia De Los Muertos Program. Film Festival nights are October 12 and 13th with a possible extended run as an installation.

Since we want to spotlight as many Artists as possible this year we will be concentrating on short works. Any genre 15 minutes or less will be considered. This includes trailers for larger works and even music videos. Multiply entries accepted as long as the total running time does not exceed 15 minutes and are on one tape or disk.

Jul. 26, 2007 - (The Hollywood Reporter) - When three well-known filmmakers approached the major studios this spring and offered them a take-it-or-leave-it deal to buy a slate of their movies for $100 million, the proposal would have made headlines no matter who was involved. But this particular slate happened to be the brainchild of Mexico-born helmers Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. The trio of longtime friends banded together for a five-picture production partnership, christened Cha Cha Cha, and signed a deal with Universal and Focus Features in May. They will retain full creative control over the projects, which also will include features from Carlos Cuaron and Rodrigo Garcia.

TORONTO UNVEILS DOCUMENTARY LINEUP

Jul. 31, 2007 - (indieWIRE) - The Toronto International Film Festival unveiled this year's full documentary line up for its Real to Reel section, describing the roster as "politically engaged work and in-depth character studies." Thirteen American docs join this year's list of 20 Real to Reel films in addition to two U.S. and overseas co-productions. Conflicts past and present with an emphasis on the Muslim world are among this year's major themes, including a look back at the Algeria's conflict with France for independence in Jean-Pierre Lledo's "Algerrie, Histories a Ne Pas Dire," while Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro's "Body of War" gives a personal account of the war in Iraq. Other notable titles in this year's doc line up include Werner Herzog's look at Antarctica in "Encounters at the End of the World," "The Last King of Scotland" director Kevin Macdonald's "My Enemy's Enemy," "A Jihad for Love" by newcomer Parvez Sharma and Amir Bar-Lev's Sundance debut "My Kid Could Paint That." CASTING: SPANISH SPEAKER FOR PLAY (SAN FRANCISCO)

Theatre company Naked Masks is casting a role for a Spanish-speaking woman age 40-60 in our next production, "No Such Thing." No previous acting experience required.

This is for a small, but memorable role of a Mexican woman mourning the unjust death of her son.

Rehearsals begin in Berkeley this October and performances are Fridays and Saturdays, 11/16-12/1 in the theater at New Langton Arts in San Francisco.
