2007 PITCHATHON Call-For-Participants/Submissions - Deadline: Friday, July 20, 2007

The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) is now accepting submissions from viable participants for the 2007 PITCHATHON (formerly known as the Latino Pitch Pit), a forum for fine-tuning your creative pitches to industry executives. Composed of seasoned industry insiders from the directorial, production, development, casting and legal sectors, this panel will provide invaluable insights on how to successfully pitch your idea, film, or completed script's concept, as well as how to avoid common industry pitfalls. HOW IT WORKS:
7-10 participants will be pre-screened and selected to pitch their project concepts and/or scripts ideas to a panel of buyers and development executives. Each participant will have 5-7 minutes to pitch his/her ideas. Two pitches will be selected to win, one by a panel of professionals, the second via a from the festival audience members in attendance. Whether you are selected to pitch or just stop by the panel to take in the wealth of information offered, you don't want to to miss this event.

Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts Accepting Visiting Senior Fellowship Program Applications

The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art ( http://www.nga.gov/resources/casva.shtm ) announces its program for Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships. Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington, D.C., and to participate in the activities of the center throughout the fellowship period.
Applications will be considered for research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, prints and drawings, film, photography, decorative arts, industrial design, and other arts) of any geographical area and of any period. Applications are also solicited from scholars in other discipl- ines whose work examines artifacts or has implications for the analysis and criticism of visual form.
Visiting senior fellowships are intended for those who have held the Ph.D. for five years or more or who possess an equivalent record of professional accomplishment at the time of application. Visiting senior fellowships are awarded without regard to the age or nationality of applicants.
The center awards up to twelve short-term (up to 60 days) Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships. Visiting senior fellows receive stipends that include round-trip travel and local expenses. Stipends for two-month fellowships range from $6,000 to $8,000, depending on relocation require- ments. Visiting senior fellows may be eligible for a $1,500-per- month housing allowance.
The center will consider appointment of associates who have obtained awards for full-time research from granting institutions other than their home institutions and would like to be affili- ated with the center. Appointments to associate status will be considered for periods of up to 60 days.

The 1st Annual Orlando Hispanic Film Festival (OHFF) comes to the heart of Orlando, Florida on Oct. 12th – Oct. 14th, 2007.
OHFF continues accepting submissions for feature films, shorts and documentaries until August 15th. To qualify for awards, the production team: the Writer, Director, Producer, Actor, or Cinematographer must be of Hispanic descent or the project must have a Hispanic theme.

Selected from a competitive pool of filmmakers in a commercial agency opportunity offered by the New York International Latino Film Festival, three NALIP members were selected to produce, write and direct a commercial/minifilm for sponsor Banco Popular to screen before all films at the NYILFF. The film was written and directed by NALIP Member, LPA and LWL Fellow Cristina Ibarra, Produced by NALIP Member, LPA and LWL fellow Sonia Malfa, and edited by former NALIP Board Member Sonia Gonzalez.

HBO and the New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) has announced Hispaniola, a screenplay by Freddy Vargas, as the winner of the 4th Annual HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition. Vargas will receive a $15,000 grant from HBO to produce and direct a short film based on his original script. The competition, created
in 2004, seeks to foster films by Latino filmmakers and/or about the Latino experience. "We're immensely proud of the HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition and what our partnership with the festival has been able do for new filmmakers," said Lucinda Martinez-Desir, vice president, Market Development at HBO. "Our combined efforts have helped to call attention to the universality of Latino cultural entertainment."

Nearly all accomplished and successful filmmakers can claim they benefited from having a mentor. Some claim it's a major key to success. Hollywood director-writer Jon Keeyes is no exception. He was motivated by none other than NALIP member and fellow director Robert Rodriguez. As he observed Rodriguez in action, Keeyes claims that he "was an inspiration through his interactions with cast and crew".
To Keeyes, "pay it forward" is more than just a movie title, it's a process that he believes in. Now Keeyes is paying it forward to NALIP member, actor, writer and filmmaker Sandy Crista Baumann. Baumann met Keeyes at an Indie Club monthly meeting. She asked him to read her short and provide feedback. Not only did he generously offer his expertise, he agreed to direct!
"I never dreamed that someone of his caliber, talent and major success would have time to direct my short", Baumann stated. "I'm really blessed to have him mentoring me."
Raised in Hollywood, Keeyes began his career as an entertainment journalist and has published more than 150 movie related articles and interviews.
His directing debut of the psychological thriller American Nightmare was widely acclaimed and compared to a cult classic. "One of the best American slasher films since Scream." FLIPSIDE MOVIE EMPORIUM
His action film Living and Dying starring Michael Madsen, Edward Furlong and Arnold Vosloo released through Warner Brothers and is theatrically playing overseas.
