Summary of THE LOSING FIGHT
SHAWN, a black teenager, who's family is Muslim, has just received the unfortunate news that their oldest son, a US Muslim soldier in the Army was murdered and burned to death in Iraq by insurgents.
Angered by the act of atrocity, Shawn decides to avenge his brother’s death, by repeating the act on an innocent Kuwaiti, KHALID, a young man who runs a small chicken and biscuit stop with his father. Shawn informs his Puerto Rican friend RICKY, to go to the gas station to get some gas and meet him later on that night.
It’s closing time and Khalid’s dad gives his son the key to lock up and thanks him for putting a hold on his education, until the father can find good help. They embrace and Khalid sends his father home and stays behind to clean up. Later that night as Khalid is walking home, a car pulls up and Shawn jumps out of the car and hits Khalid with the butt of his GUN, tearing Khalid’s mouth to shreds. Khalid looks up and recognizes Shawn, as one of his daily customers; Shawn pulls the trigger and Khalid is shot at point blank, in the chest. Shawn grabs the gas container that Ricky filled up with gas and pours it on Khalid but Ricky intervenes and as they struggle, Ricky accidentally shoots Shawn in the stomach; in a moment of panic, Ricky gets in his car and drives away, leaving Khalid and Shawn, near to death.
Shawn looks over at Khalid who’s barely alive and asks him for forgiveness – as his life starts to slip away, Khalid calls 911, and tells the operator that his friend has been shot and is dying. Khalid accepts his forgiveness.
The next morning, Khalid’s dad is in front of his restaurant and waits for his son to arrive and open up their little establishment. He waits, looks at his watch, and knows that something has gone terribly wrong.

Elizabeth is a bright student who lives with her single mother in El Sereno, a predominantly Latino neighborhood in Los Angeles. She is given the opportunity to attend an all women writer's camp, but the limits of her world might crush her dreams. Elizabeth meets Marcos who could become her first boyfriend, but her mother is desperate to save Elizabeth from making the same mistakes she made.
