NBC WRITERS ON THE VERGE - SEASON II

Writers on the Verge is a 10 week program focused on polishing television writers and readying them for a staff writer position on television shows.  We are looking for writers who are “almost there”, and just need that final bit of preparation with their writing and personal presentation skills.  We particularly writers of diverse backgrounds to apply. 

The program will consist of two, three hour, night classes weekly from September 25th – December 6th held at NBC in Burbank.  Once accepted, students must attend all classes which will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and turn in all written assignments.

Classes will concentrate on creating an exceptional spec script and understanding the dynamics of, and pitching themselves in, the television industry.  The writers will be given the chance to interact with industry players from network executives to showrunners to agents, and will get valuable feedback on their work and pitch style.   Writing assignments on a NBC television show may be available after successful completion of the program, but are not a guarantee.

Application Requirements:

1) Applicants must submit one properly formatted television spec screenplay based on a
show that aired new episodes during the 2006-2007 season on any broadcast network or cable network.  This script should be submitted as a pdf file.

2) Applicants must provide two brief essays (as a pdf - not to exceed 250 words)  to answer both of the following questions:
A)  What from your background do you bring to the table as a writer that provides a fresh perspective in your storytelling?
B) What television show most inspired you to become a television writer and why?

3) Applicants must supply a copy of their resume (also as a pdf - including their email address and phone number).

4) Applicants must fill out a release form for their submitted script.  Release forms can be downloaded at www.diversecitynbc.com. Once signed, release forms can be scanned and emailed in with application or faxed to 818-866-2537.

5) Applicants must be able to supply their own housing and transportation in the Los Angeles area for the duration of the program.

Once completed, the application in its entirety should be emailed to writersontheverge@nbcuni.com.  Submissions must be emailed by 11:59 pm PST, July 19th, 2007.

September 10, 2007 – Selected students are notified

December 6, 2007 – End of program

Applicants not selected will be notified via email after September 10, 2007.  No feedback or coverage will be provided on material submitted.

FLORIDA MEDIA MARKET NOW OPEN FOR REGISTRATION!

The South Florida conference joining distributors, executives and financiers from around the globe with aspiring and established film and TV makers, is now open for registration. The conference features three tracks:
• Track 1: "Let's Make a Deal" - more than 200 top media executives from more than 13 countries will be present to buy and sell media products and for one-on-one pitch sessions.

• Track 2: "Teach me something I don't already know" - educational workshops and panels featuring experts who will share best practices and education on working in Latin America, the United States, Asia and Europe; in addition to workshops on marketing and advertising, financing, international project management and multi-lingual content creation.

• Track 3:  Independent Showcases - independent content creators will be given the opportunity to showcase and demo their work to both television and film producers who will be visiting the showcase in search of content and new ideas. The Global Film and Media Conference also features an Opening Night Celebration with live entertainment, networking breakfasts and lunches. The conference will conclude with the Awards Brunch on Sunday, October 21st where the winners of the various competitions will be announced.

WOMEN IN FILM, GM TO AWARD LATINA FILMMAKERS

Women in Film and General Motors announced Monday the selection and application timetable for the second annual Opening Doors/Abriendo Puertas: The Acceleration Grant for Emerging Latina Filmmakers.

Five recipients will be chosen by a committee consisting of professional filmmakers and industry execs from the Gotham-based chapter of WIF, New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT).

Hosted by NYWIFT from Oct. 15-21, grant will award recipients with a six-day intensive mentoring program, beginning with two days of meetings and seminars with leaders and execs in film and TV as well as industry passes to the Hamptons Intl. Film Fest, running Oct. 17-21.

The 7th Annual Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) will be held March 13-21, 2008 in Tiburon, California, a showcase for the independent films and filmmakers from around the world.

Submissions are open to all genres of film: Fiction, documentary, short, animation, experimental, TV film, children, sports, music video, student,.....from any nation in the world.

In March 2007, TIFF showed more than 250 films from 90 countries from 3000 plus submissions.

The festival has honored many great filmmakers like: Orson Welles, Sam Pekinpah, Luchino Visconti, Charlie Chaplin, Santiago Alvarez, John Frankenheimer, George Stevens, Malcolm McDowell, James Coburn, Saul Zaentz, Brad Bird, Paul Mazursky, Mark Rydell .....

The Tiburon International Film Festival is proud to be the platform for the independent filmmakers from around the world, with premieres like Academy Award winner "West Bank Story" (US) by Ari Sandel, and Academy Award nominee "7:35 am" (7:35 de la mañana) from Spain by Nacho Vigalondo .... and many films, which were picked up for distribution .... and countless films that were invited to other festivals after premiering at TIFF.

Golden Reel Award
The films submitted to the Tiburon International Film Festival are eligible to win the Golden Reel Award in several categories: Best Fiction, Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Short, Best Animation, Best Children Film, Best Student Film, Best Music Video, Best Sports Film .....and the winners of all categories will be announced during a formal ceremony at the end of the Festival.

INTERVIEW WITH "DRAMA/MEX" DIRECTOR GERARDO NARANJO

Jul. 10, 2007 - (indieWIRE) - In Mexican director Gerardo Naranjo's "Drama/Mex," two interlaced stories unfold over the course of the same long, hot day in the once lush and now decadent resort town of Acapulco. The first involves the beautiful and cool Fernanda, who is forced to deal with the sudden emergence of her ex-lover, Chino. Her boyfriend, Gonzalo, must now compete with the intense sexual tension Fernanda and Chino share. Under the direction of Jose Luis Valenzuela, Melancholia was developed by the Latino Theater Company Laboratory through a process of research, improvisation and the exploration of new theatrical expressions. The play approaches the topic with drama, humor, music, dance, movement and a little Shakespeare.

THEATER STAGE MANAGER

Upstage Theater Arts Schools is seeking an experienced theater stage manager for two children's productions it is doing this summer.

The pay is $600 per week.
