The Annual East Los Angeles Chicano Film Festival will be from November 5 -13, 2007 at various locations throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Our venues this year include the Echo Park Film Center, Placita Olvera, East Los Angeles College and Plaza De La Raza.
Cine is a growing part of the cultural landscape in Los Angeles, in California, in the United States and Internationally. Each year we screen 50-60 films (feature length documentaries, narratives, shorts and experimental cinema) with an approximate attendance of 5000 people a year. We have consistently drawn in families, artists, producers, directors, youth and persons from all walks of life.
In addition, we host several panel discussions with industry leaders who give insight about the perceptions the film industry has towards Chicana/os and the impact of our community’s market share. Established Chicana/o filmmakers, actors, writers, directors, producers and activists moderate a forum in which aspiring artists can ask career-defining questions and have them discussed among peers. We also provide workshops which are coordinated by industry professionals and include topics such as: Acting, Directing, Screenwriting, Production Management, and Technical Production. A networking/closing night reception is planned with live entertainment (local East LA Chicano bands) to bring the entertainment communities together. The event is open to the public.
Finally, Cine Sin Fin is proud to recognize the achievements of independent filmmakers, writers, directors, and actors. June 6, 2007 - (Los Angeles Times) - After years of catch-up, multiculturalism seemed primed for the major leagues of prime-time network TV when the culturally diverse "Heroes" and "Ugly Betty" zoomed to hit status in the 2006-07 season. Executives charged with increasing diversity in front of and behind the cameras at the four major networks say the coming season demonstrates their continued commitment, since most new series contain minorities in prominent roles. Among the series attracting early diversity buzz is "K-Ville," starring Anthony Anderson ("The Shield") as a policeman in post-Katrina New Orleans, and "Cane," CBS' drama built around a predominantly minority cast. But instead of celebrating, leaders from the NAACP, in addition to Latino and Asian advocacy groups monitoring the TV industry for years, are disappointed, saying network television is sending mixed messages when it comes to diversity. Although they say there is obvious progress, they contend the fall lineup, particularly when it comes to the new comedies and dramas on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, falls short after what they feel has been positive momentum on shows such as "Ugly Betty," "Grey's Anatomy," "Heroes" and "Lost." June 6, 2007 - LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - U.S. network television will present a stronger feminine side next season, with a parade of new prime time heroines, including a bionic woman, a cyborg-fighting mom and a group of high-heeled sleuths. Nearly a dozen new shows featuring women protagonists, some in crime-fighting, butt-kicking roles, are part of broadcasters' recently unveiled 2007-2008 TV schedules. FULL STORY HERE

The members of the incoming board of directors will be Mahfouz Doss (chairman), Armando Gallo, Anke Hofmann, Erkki Kanto, Paz Mata and Frances Schonberger (alternate). FULL STORY HERE
Jun 1, 2007 - (The Post Chronicle) - Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candice Bergen are teaming up for a remake of the 1939 classic The Women. The cast members, who have either signed up for the movie or are on the verge of doing so, will be directed by Diane English, who has spent more than 10 years trying to get the project off the ground.
