NALIP believes that a Producer is the creative originator of films, a self-starter who recognizes ideas that have creative or commercial merit. Producers must have passion, sensitivity for story and audience, plus the organizational ability and practical smarts to put together a project and guide it to and through the marketplace. NALIP’s Latino Producers Academy presents our Fellows the practical skills and knowledge to accomplish their personal goals and artistic dreams as filmmakers.

Homies begins its debut as the first nationally syndicated Latino Stop Motion Animation Show in America.

Homies cast includes writer & NALIP member Oskar Toruno, voice over Gabriel Gonzalez, voice over Yvonne De La Rosa, animator Nicholas Romero, Head of Development at LATV Rick Najera and Renee Sandoval.
Award-winning Rick Najera develops his first comedy show under LATV with the two inch figurines “Homies.” Homies is based on the popular figurines that were created by artist David Gonzalez. According to David, “Homies is influenced by the culture and people I met growing up in Los Angeles. Some are vatos, Chicanas, Police Officers, Mothers, Teachers and are all celebrated through a figurine.”
Since appearing in Southern California vending machines, to date, Homies have sold over 200 million units all over the world.
“Homies has a large built in audience and the trick was to create a comedy piece that appeals to not only fans of the figurines but fans of Latino comedy. LATV has always been about showcasing the best Latino talent in America.” adds Rick Najera.
Writers Oskar Toruno and Renee Sandoval have added to the Homies production as well as the talented voices of Diablito, Gabriel Gonzalez and comic JT Jackson.
The four animated segments are entitled: “Homie Stuck in the Well”, “Mariachi Idol”, “University of Getta Job” and “At The Cine”. All four Homies segments will air on Friday June 8, 2007 at LATV LIVE Hip-Hop Show! For more information on the Homie Show just log onto: www.myspace.com/homiestvshow.

Crafting a Great Story: Developing Camera-Ready Scripts
Starts: July 7, 2007
Duration: 10 weeks
Days: Saturdays, 1-5pm
Location: UCLA campus, Room TBA
Instructor: Harrison Reiner
Max Enrollment: 10 students
Contact: (310) 825-6827
This intensive workshop gives students the opportunity to work side-by-side with a professional story analyst/writer-producer in a highly supportive environment. The instructor supervises the students as they craft stories that can emotionally engage a motion picture or television audience and have the best chance to sell in a highly competitive marketplace. This highly individualized workshop is designed to meet the differing needs of each participant. The instructor will take into account how far along in the story development process each project is, from an as-yet unwritten idea to a finished screenplay with story problems. Both original ideas and projects based on underlying material are welcome. One-on-one consultations with the instructor and off-campus focus groups are available and complement the workshop experience. Students may repeat the workshop with the same project until their script is camera-ready.
Instructor Harrison Reiner: Staff Story Analyst (I.A.T.S.E.), CBS-Paramount Television (developers of movies and series); Producer and Co-Writer, Tierra de Tigres (feature film currently in post-production, shot on location in Mexico; script was developed in the Crafting a Great Story workshop); Mentor, Latino Writers Lab (sponsored by Time-Warner, the Writers Guild of America, and the National Association of Latino Producers); Mentor and Lecturer, Hollywood Black Film Festival; former Production Executive, Sovereign Pictures (co-distributors of the Academy Award-winning motion pictures My Left Foot and Cinema Paradiso); Story Editor, RKO Pictures (during the filming of John Sayle's Eight Men Out); served as story analyst for Universal Pictures, Sherry Lansing Productions in association with Paramount Pictures, and Warner Brothers Feature Animation.

Pixelodeon announced speakers, curators, and a line-up of over 300 videos for its first annual screening festival to be held at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California on June 9-10. The event will feature keynote addresses from speakers bridging the divide between traditional media and new media, and those dealing with issues such as copyright and file sharing. Pixelodeon will also include a "DIY Theater" programmed by the public using the website wiki. The complete list of speakers, curators, and videos is available at www.pixelodeonfest.com.
Two dozen curators, including notable new media content creators Amanda Congdon of ABC News, Veronica Belmont of C|Net, and Bre Pettis of Make Magazine, selected videos from the Internet to illustrate themes for one-hour theater screenings starting at 12PM until 6PM each day. Only videos that were created for the Internet were included in the selections and over two dozen countries are represented.
Speakers include Rob Schrab and Dan Harmon from Acceptable.TV, Fred Seibert from Frederator Studios, Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine from Ask a Ninja, and Jon Phillips from Creative Commons discussing their personal views about the way the Internet has empowered independent artists and changed the landscape of media.
